There has been some fantastic photographs posted on the last few pages, now for the other side of the coin....
44932 was owned by Pete Wood in this 1991 'snap' taken at FW prior to what we thought would be a week's work away from the usual 46203 runs. Different groups at Butterley were asked to help with crewing the locomotive during its stay in Scotland; BR driver John Hynd is pictured far right - really great guy. Unfortunately, whilst working the Royal Scotsman train later in the week, disaster struck when water was leaking into the firebox whilst on the return run to FW. Boiler pressure was down to 150lbs when we had to call it a day at Arisaig. One of our lot was still convinced he could get the situation resolved without diesel assistance - cue the exhaust!

In 2015 the empty stock went back by two trains both steam hauled. The K1 approaching County March Summit from the Horseshoe with train 1. By the time the two Black Fives turned up the sun had come out but seeing how the K1 exhaust had blown down I moved to a position just over the summit, the change in gradient is clearly seen. The remains of the summit board are behind the second loco so I hope the Friends of the WHR will restore it as they have with the one at Corrour.

K1 & B1 approaching County March. This was the 2002 charter on the same day as I took the shot from the old footbridge and involved some forward planning. The way to the Horsehoe was by hired buses from Bridge of Orchy but knowing the footbridge shot involved a lot more walking than the everyone else I took my car to Bridge of Orchy the evening before and travelled back by train, having first got permission from the farmer to take it down into the Horseshoe the following day. In that way I didn't miss any of the runpasts.

I remember this day well, a tender full of slack on 44871 by Tulloch. With the climb up to Corrour coming up and P.W on the handle giving it big licks, it wasn’t exactly ideal.
The locos coal rake had been obliterated the week previous due to it being left in the coal space before coaling. One was liberated off 45407 and a support crew hero raked down what lumps he could whilst a proper fire could then be built. Never to be beaten

You still look very nonchalant about it in that picture at the County March, Matt..... or are you leaning out to get some air?:)

My copy of ‘On the Iron Road to the Isles’ arrived today (£45 including post and packing).

    It looks absolutely superb.

Many thanks to @J Shuttleworth and @Johnb for the heads up on this.

I’ve looked back at my picture and just realised who you are. I saw you at Duxford last year I believe.
