Funnily enough I would say not. Many are taken around the time of the once annual photo charter or the last week of the season , outwith that week ( or so ) it's quite possible to find yourself very much on your own.

I'd agree with that. The only other time I've known it to be busy is if people decide to have a week up there before / after one of the occasional mainline charters. Glenfinnan has become increasingly mobbed, but with tourists rather than your traditional railway photographer.

Following on from Dave's shot of the two Ks at Glenfinnan
    Centenary week in 1994.

The K1 and K4 worked north over the main line on Sunday 7th August.
the next day the K1 hauled the Royal Scotsman and for the following two days the two locos took the service train double headed, the final midweek service on the Thursday taken by the K1 on it's own.

I wish I were still fit enough to do the last two shots on one trip ;)

It hardly needs saying that what all these photos illustrate, other than just the competence of the photographer and the quality of his camera, is how even the same location can be interpreted differently, depending on the light, wind direction and in what style the image is edited. _IMG2553 b&w(2).jpg

Known as the PW hut shot, the K1 between Beasdale Tunnels No2 & 3. This is on the 1 in 49 so the steam sanders are on. This location is not for the unfit, involving a near vertical climb from the road below

Indeed - The "gallery" at the Viaduct is quite a sight these days, but as you say probably not a single photter (as we understand it) among those happy snappers scattered over the hillside.

When I started going up there 20 years ago half a dozen was a lot, now more like the Kop at Liverpool on a match day. It's a nightmare for the locals, if you haven't got there by 08.30 there's not a hope of parking. This year will be different but no trains!

That crowd beats even the photters on the first day in May 84.
Not that long ago the hillside would be quiet - this is 2015. Back in the day there was no hillside footpath to make it easier for the crowds.

It could get a bit crowded on the charters. A lot of glum faces wait in the rain at Loch Dubh
