Take Tornado off and I'm with you on that.

Nothing against Tornado. Just that I'm not a fan of double acts.

I'm inclined to agree and it would be far better to see No.9 go out running solo. Better than nothing at all though.

Pedant mode ON... You can have the final something or you can have the finale, but using both is tautology, since both mean basically the same thing. Pedant mode OFF.:)

I had to look-up 'tautology' but fully understood what @dublo6231 meant with 'a fitting final finale.' :D

Described as “Noteworthy” on Ian’s superb https://settlecarlislesteam.co.uk/ website, I think it’s worth highlighting a couple of the details behind this passing reference to 60532/ 60007 on NELPG’s "Wilton Enterprise" southbound run on 30th May 1998. As a 16P SuperPower event, the performance on the southbound climb to the Ais Gill Summit Board (MP259.75) was nothing short of simply stunning, and I would guess (but open to challenge!) unlikely to have ever been rivalled with a load equivalent to 11/ 435 gross as on this occasion. The headlines - even time just slightly bettered by a few seconds on the recognised 15.5 mile measured climbing section from Ormside Viaduct to MP259.75; and climbing speeds never falling below a mile-a-minute rate over the final six miles all the way to the Summit Board, passed at 62!

Off the top of my head, this type of 16P double-headed combination is comparatively rare nowadays – one of the few (perhaps only?) recent examples I can think of was Pathfinder’s "Tamar Devonian" with its Tornado / KE1 combination over the Devon Banks in September 2010. And perhaps not to everyone’s taste – unrepresentative performance, honours shared, and all that. A couple of the preceding posts mulling the possibility of a UoSA/ Tornado combination hint in the direction of this sentiment too. But for fans who delight in searching for absolute outright performance records, (guilty as charged, I’m afraid!) I don’t think that this particular 1998 outing should go unremarked.

There was a double header with Tornado and Duke of Gloucester in 2012 I think.

Thanks for the mention @Where's Mazeppa? Certainly rare of the last decade or two, however 2019 was a slight exception to the rule with the 35018 + 61306 (total 13P) and 35018 + 46115 (total 15P) double headers. 6233 and 6201 have both been paired with 5043 over Shap. I will leave to the experts on how close 46115 + 35018 would be compared to 60007 + 60532!

Seeing as 45562 did Shap and the S&C thought this would qualify as a CME .

In that case, may I applaud your shot of 60007 going through Dawlish.

An awful lot. Some would call it insanity, but you might disagree with calling it that...
