    a common misconception.

Pheonix was an 0-2-2 locomotive that ran on the Liverpool and Manchester rly.

while i cannot find a LNWR loco of that name it is a fact that the North Western perpetuated loco names from the very earliest days of steam.

this was perptuated by the LMS under both Fowler and Stanier .(to their credit)
some (all?)of the Royal Scots that were re-named after British Regiments carried names from the earliest days as did many Jubilees .

some examples are Ajax , Arrow , Atlas, Eclipse, Fury , Lion , Mars , Meteor , Planet , Pheonix , Novelty ,Sans Pariel . all L&M locos , and there are more .

the Navy connection is not with Destroyers and their like but the wooden ships of Nelson and others' Navy . names which were also perpetuated by the Royal Navy

    Very interesting reading!
How much difference is permissible in the positioning of the boiler & firebox when re-assembling a Loco? I seem to recall that when 75078 was last re-assembled on the KWVR, the boiler & firebox went in to within 1/4" of its position when it came out.

The GWR did have a Phoenix too, though it came in a series of classical names including Centaur and Pegasus rather than in a 'bird' series.

As previously said, very interesting indeed. As a total mechanical/technical ignoramus it is incredible to me how many little bits go together to make the big blue/green/red black things we see chuffing past us. It is also incredible how much expertise and dedication goes into work such as this-all credit to those involved.

3 months since the last update. Is anything new of the progress of SNG?

Anyone know when 60007 may be ready? With York in tier 2 is work able to carry on?

    When it’s ready.

With all that’s happened this year work on the loco has progressed well despite the hopes that it’ll have been ready this year and the guys working on the loco should be proud. The regular updates should give you the best idea.

The reason I ask is because I thought it would be ready next summer but there seems to be a suggestion that sadly it won't be which would be a great shame. I look forward to it running again whenever that occurs.
