I think need was the right word to use given I’m a member and volunteer at said railway. I’d have used could if I were just someone posting on a forum.

Regardless of the tone of the language used in the request, it doesn't look as though the courtesy of an answer is going to be given. As was remarked on when the WSR was in need of donations last winter, the chances are that there will be a better response if the reasons why are expanded upon.

Work on 3814 appears to have stalled.

I thought that the launch of 6880 Betton Grange was dependant on this tender loaned from 3814?

    Bob,

I think Garth's comment refers to the contract work on the loco itself. As I understand it, the tender is being worked on by volunteers from the 6880 group.

There are several comments on the 3814 Facebook page over the last year or so from the owner, regarding a lack of information coming from Llangollen/progress on his loco.

I think that we're waiting for our boilersmiths to become available. The boilers from 'Morayshire' and 4160 are finished apart from minor bits, our Pannier tank boiler is being done by a volunteer boilersmith, and the only big job being worked on is 5539, so shouldn't be long now before 3814 can be worked on.

I must admit that (from a position of total ignorance) I had some concern about the number of third party projects going on at Llangollen, although I was thinking more of the the various projects being unable to raise funds.

The River Dee is extremely high at the moment, but hasn't done any damage to the railway. The area around the new Corwen station site is flooded, but hasn't affected our works.

Correct so a bit of a smokescreen there. There is no active work from the PLC on the loco itself - at present, as the work on the tender is being done by 6880 volunteers for their own project.
It's all very in the shadows this. Why is the Trust being asked to cover for PLC losses - yet another occurrence in direct contradiction of the HRA issued guidelines this last winter.
And is the Railway Herald article to be believed - have they found a mysterious donor to save the line, as per done when the failing state of the Dee Valley Bridge at Pentre threatened the entire line?

I do wish people on here would research their facts . The Trust is not bailing out the plc . The money paid to the plc was for engineering work carried out on two trust owned locos.
The work on 3814 is due to start imminently with the crinolines being job number one. I do know that the tender is being worked on by volunteers, but it is still part of 3814.
I would suggest that if you wish to s***stir there are more appropriate threads on this forum for you to comment on.

Why get grumpy when reasonable questions are asked? An appeal has gone out, from the Trust, asking for £125,000. It's not exactly a small amount of money that many have readily available - so questions will be asked before parting with cash.

The PLC is the one looking to gain from this, only £90k has been quoted as for work, so that leaves £35k for what? To cover operational deficits within the PLC..? People won't donate to black holes, and constant criticism of any questions not to your liking will be just as affective in enticing donors. The letter that was issued stated the PLC was entering a CVA, and yet even a long serving volunteer was ridiculed for mentioning this. Maybe if the PLC was honest and provided the facts there'd be less to s***stir about for want of a phrase.

Nature, and NP forums, abhor a vacuum. . . So give us facts or we'll make up our own. ;):D
(I should probably post this on the WSR thread too. ;))

Herewith, assuming this is the letter you are referring to. It purports to come from both entities, which I suppose has the benefit of ensuring that the PLC is on board with the statement about its financial situation. It is undated but received the day I made the initial post on this subject a couple of pages back. So as of now, members of the Trust can reasonably hold the view that the CVA is still imminent as no further communication has been received.

There has been more recent communication which says the finance required has been received and so the PLC does not need to enter into a CVA and does not need to sell Jennifer or Austin 1.

A letter from the trust or PLC, or what? (Just trying to clarify.)
I certainly hope they can get it sorted.

My post must be delayed. But thank you for the facts. It’s good to hear a positive response, and we can look forward to the 90s weekend!
