The cut down Tynesider appears to have been cut down further after finding times:

With the return timed for 95mph max, knowing that RTT publishes max speeds based on the first loco to haul a diagram, is it safe to assume 60009 isn’t expected to make this trip either?

If it doesn't 6233 is the back-up loco see http://www.prclt.co.uk/6233-running-dates.html

It's not safe to assume anything until RTC or the 60009 FB group say something officially. I would suggest it's a work in progress to get the times on the system. 46233 or whatever will have to work its way back to York to be backup after 7 December.

If diesel haulage comes to pass, ces't la vie, and these things happen; just a shame 60009 won't quite get the send-off it deserves. Speaking for myself, I'll probably bail at York after a run from Peterborough under a southbound diesel haulage scenario. Best just to put the money spent on advance train tickets on the Sunday down to experience and cancel the hotel.

Looks like there's a diesel on the back as well, as the ECS goes out to Holgate sidings while 60163 heads to Wensleydale shortly afterwards.

Whatever is working the southbound comes from the NRM soon afterwards.

Timings are correct for steam on that, though sitting at Holgate for over 2 1/2 hours seems odd. Return timings are a bit strange as well, 25 minutes sitting at both Peterborough and Conington.

I was not writing off Nr 9, just pointing out that was a steam back-up option rather than a diesel.

The last I heard this trip was one that is supposed to be diesel free with nothing needed for shunt moves and big locos on the train.

But we seem to be into No. 9 lottery again. Perhaps this lovely A4 is trying to tell us something?

Sorry. Didn't intend post to be a reply to your post Paul. Guess 6233 is backup to 60163 for the KGX-YRK leg?

No LE moves at King's Cross either, so pretty sure there will be a diesel on the back.

I don't think you can always go by that at Kings Cross. If the diesel that brings the stock in doesn't stay on the back it is parked over where the York Road platform used to be - this move doesn't always show on RTT as far as I know.

Just tried to book on it but nothing available except in Premier Dining now.

Those sidings have gone now at King's Cross.

Thanks - didn't know that. Wonder where they would park a stray diesel now?

You're probably right then in thinking it's staying on the back - it seems to be very hard to find anything that is diesel free at the moment.

I took it as being available for either leg since there was a gap of 7 days between trips and enough time for a light engine movement.
6233 is going back to Butterley for repairs that will require a specialist contractor according to their facebook pages TPWS problems mentioned.

So it all hinges on UoSA being fixed so that it can travel LE to York and carry out the return leg on the 14th as planned. My guess is that the A1ST will want to get the business northbound so it can get Tornado home for Christmas. However whilst that may suit them it might not suit passengers who could face an already expensive and now truncated trip with a possible one way steam leg should the A4 not be available.

So we hold our breath and hope that the RTC does the right thing.

Rock and hard place springs to mind, as there's still the money spent on rail tickets to lock in the price. However, willing to lose £40 for Sunday if steam only one-way as I would save more on a hotel and ticket from King's Cross. That's speaking purely for myself, of course.

See my post regarding the Lincoln - - the plan is to have No.9 back in service by this weekend.

Any chance given Number 9's troubles that the A1 steam trust could be asked to cover the return as well? As it's Xmas and all that...

Nice thought but if it suits them they'll do it. If it doesn't, they won't. That's my guess.

60163 was doing KGX-YRK and return on the original Tynesider.
