5239 Goliath overhaul at ESR

    Same here! Whilst I'm not really a fan of naming locos that never carried a name in pre-heritage railways days, its a great selling point for the operators. This is definitely one of my favourite locos and, I believe it was the 1st one of its class from Barry Scrapyard to return to steam back in 1978. At the time I was based at BRNC Dartmouth and managed to glimpse 5239 across the estuary heading to Kingswear from the parade ground before being told to "keep looking straight ahead Sir!" by the parade PO! It's great to see this lovely loco back again. If it weren't for Barry Scrapyard, we wouldn't see any of them now.

    Will the ESR get some running out of “Goliath” before it is returned to DSR? Santa specials perhaps?

    I believe it is currently due to run the Santa's, anything after that in the new year (Spring gala etc.) is tba. On another note here's a photo of the loco at Mendip Vale for the first time during a successful light test/gauging run on Saturday.
