Has No 9 gone into Wolverton Works? It was stopped by the connection into the works than dissapeared so Im guessing its gone in there out the way??

I suspect that somewhere with a tender lift would be helpful.

From a passenger perspective, while I booked for the miles behind no. 9, I’m admiral of the effort put into getting 9 south, and in the end grateful that another loco can be steamed and passed of FTR exams at such short notice.

    Latest from 60009 Facebook page:

“Number 9 is now at Wolverton Works where the tender is being removed for shipping to Ian Rileys on Monday for repairs. These will be carried out as quickly as possible.”

Unless Ian Riley's team pulls off something remarkable this feels as though the Norwich-York trip on the 28th may be a casualty. Let's at least hope that No 9 can continue its journey to Southall later in the week for the York trip from London on Saturday.

44871 is booked to attend Nene Valley to assist with Santa operations. The fact that on Thursday steam is to come off on the return anyway, logically it would make sense for the 5 to do the job to get it there.

However until the A4 is looked at in detail, I guess nothing is certain in the next week or so...

A nice climb out of the Severn Tunnel. Plenty of noise from the front.

I don't understand. Ralph's post #62 was a question, not definitive information, and Shireman's post #63 was information given in good faith. What's to be unhappy about?

Anyway, climb to Pontypool was excellent, but assistance on Llanfihangel after a cautious approach to Abergavenny Station.

Checked on Llanvihangel. 18mph at the foot, 15mph through Abergavenny, followed by 41mph over the summit...

Overall, quite a pleasant run, considering what this trip was up against.
