In atrocious light the 5s are about to pass the site of Rhos-y-medre halt on the 1 in 83 climb from the Dee Viaduct to Ruabon.

My footage of The Black Fives roaring through the beautiful Welsh Marches. The shots included the stunning early morning climb up Filton Bank, a brilliant climb of Llanvihangel Bank from a standing start at Abergavenny Station and the two engines passing the flooded fields on the outskirts of Hereford just before Dinmore Tunnel. Enjoy.

A decent day out behind the Fives, the return leg between Abergavenny and Severn Tunnel was a crawl and we could of been back in Bristol by 21.45, if control had the bottle to let us go ahead of a pacer which was 15 mins behind us as we approached STJ ! Not a trip for the average day tripper, more for seasoned railtour purist !

I planned to film the Black '5's entering Bristol on the return. After studying the timings I realised that it was likely to run early. As it happened it was 20 mins early when I saw it but could easily have been more. It didn't help matters when your train caught up the Severn Beach to Bristol Temple Meads stopper.

In the morning I filmed the train depart from Bristol. I wanted to see the train again on the climb to Llanvihangel. Keeping to all the speed limits I managed to arrive at the location 75 minutes before the charter was due !! <BJ>

Is there a reason why its always seems to be 44871 leading when the two are paired up?

I sure I read somewhere that Ian Riley prefers to drive 45407, so that is why it is usually the second loco.

Did you film it at Temple meads? I'm thinking of going to see the next rail tour leave but not sure what the lighting is like for photos.

I assume the driver of the second loco does not have to sign the route. Is that correct?
