I won't be able to attend the Victorian Weekend, but I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures and videos that those who do go put on the internet. I did get to the gala weekend on the WHR in June and there is an album of pictures on my Flickr site. If anyone is interested in seeing them, this is the link:

    Hope they're of interest.

The latest update from Barrie Hughes' unofficial WHR site may provide a couple of talking points: http://www.isengard.co.uk/#News

There are a couple of photos of Baldwin "590", which is coming along nicely.

It would be great if the rumours about K1 returning to traffic were true.

I must say the wood cladding of the new shed at 'Blodge' is very pleasing on the eye............

I just want to thank all of those who are involved in putting together and running the Victorian Weekend. It is a fantastic event and, despite very challenging weather this morning and the loss of ME from its first run, trains ran almost like clockwork. I would certainly be keen on going again and plan to make this a regular part of my gala visiting calendar.

There was reference on here recently to some enthusiasts not taking narrow gauge seriously and of course location is a challenge - it took my four hours to get to Porthmadog last night and three hours to get home today, but what the Ffestiniog can put on makes it more worthwile than visiting many railways much closer to home.

Only one disappointment - I decided against travelling on one of the WHR shuttles today as, with just such a short train passengers were packed in like sardines which didn't look like fun at all.

Apologies of this has been posted elsewhere.

New TV series 'Steam Train Britain', apparently containing quite a bit on the F&WHR, announced on (one of) the railway's websites today. It's on 'Yesterday' starting 20:00 this Thursday (17th Oct). Set those series links folks!
    http://insidemotion.co.uk/2019/10/14/new-tv-series-starting-this-week/

There's also a report about Baldwin 4-6-0PT No.608, posted today, with a close-up image of the nearside valve gear, illustrating just how close to the track the Walschaerts gear's drop link/ anchor link are ...

This prompted a recollection of something read many moons ago, concerning Joy valve gear, as fitted to the L&B 2-6-2s, which was described, by Martin Evans, as "having an advantage in applications where the motion was close to track level". I see what he meant!

The combination lever is nowhere near the track in that picture. The big end of the connecting rod is lower at its lowest point.

The Baldwin looks great. I love the dings in the dome and creases in the cab side sheets. Can't wait to see her at work.

Soon looks like there will be 2 Baldwins at Porthmadog?
From the facebook posts 590 rebuild is doing well at the VoR.
Whereas 608 looks ready to be steamed up and move.
With the cooperation improving will there be a chance to double head the 2 locos in 2020, or will 608 have to go. back to Lancashire?

I'd be amazed if they don't meet up at some point, even if not on the F&WHR. Surely, some railway will see the potential of two Baldwin's together as a gala attraction and take the initiative to get them together?
