For one day only the CVR will be operating 3 S160's for the first time in the UK for our Super Power Saturday event.

S160 No. 2253 Ohama will be joining resident S160's No's 5197 & 6046 for the day whilst en route from the NYMR to the Dartmouth Steam Railway.

All trains will run non stop from Froghall - Ipstones with a variety of double headers, the day will end with the last train featuring all 3 locomotives at the head of the train as they tackle the 4 mile 1 in 45 climb to Ipstones Loop.

    For full details please see the link on the website;

Running all trains non-stop through Cheddleton is not ideal for anyone trying to get there by public transport.

First PMT’s 32 from Hanley stops in Froghall. Not so bad walking to CVR, but quite a climb to get back to the top...

    Exactly!

In Cheddleton, it’s just a level walk along the canal towpath.

Those in charge have decreed they want everything at Froghall, which on one-hand makes sense as it's far more equipped to cope with the expected numbers with 3x overflow car parks available within walking distance of the station. Cheddleton during events is a nightmare, due to the sheer nature of its location.

Where are the other car parks? I could not see anything on the CVR site other than reference to the station car park.

They are only used for events, we have agreements in place with the local landowners around us. A is regularly used, B & C are requested as required.

Just a shame it's Saturday only. Any reason why it's not being run on the Sunday as well?

The railway marked the completion of the first phase of the extension to Leek on Friday 11th October with a special train worked by USA S160 2-8-0 5197 and Class 33 33102 Sophie working in top n' tail mode. The train posing on the new track :

I go up the churnet valley railway once a year twice at most usually i cycle from blythe bridge to froghall after coming via derby on the train from leeds so find it awkward on public transport, i look foreward to the next 24 months seeing the extension and halt at leek completed if everything is finished on schedule providing crowd fundraising appeals get the money needed to lay the track and build the new halt at leek. Ile more than likely be going to the S160 superpower saturday 26th oct and might put a bit of money in the kitty for the leek extension.

It wasn't ! The track was laid by the Permanent Way Institution (supported by CVR volunteers) in a 48-hour session as part of its annual Practical Trackwork Challenge with 8 out of 10 allotted panels laid until disrupted by adverse weather.

Looking at the event on the website, is appears to indicate pre-purchased online tickets only, or can you buy them on the day at the station??
Certainly an event of interest to me, but won't know if I can attend until a day or so beforehand..........

Many thanks - The "internet only prices" wording could be taken two different ways, hence why I wondered if it was a pre-booked event only given it is a fundraising special.
Hopefully will be able to put in an appearance, assuming the local hospital don't surprise me with a date in the next 10 days for an operation I'm waiting for!

So if I've understood the First Potteries Bus website correctly, I catch the Kingfisher bus from Hanley to Kingsley and then walk to Froghall station? Also I want to purchase a Network area day ticket and not a Potteries area day ticket?

All of the locomotives are now on site for Super Power Saturday.

6046 is out on test today which will be followed by 2253 tomorrow.

All details are on the website including the timetable and loco diagrams.

The last train of the day will be 8 coaches + the 2 x 33 diesel locos for extra weight as the 3 S160's triple head up the 1 in 45 to Ipstones!
