Thanks, Henry. I was hoping for a bit of steam - it must have been warmer down there than it was in the shade up top!

I'm not convinced it's good news for future railtours if we're allowed to 'window hang' given the recent official instruction given to railtour operators and preserved railways.
Not to mention the fatalities and £1 million fine.
In the coach I travelled in there were notices in red on the droplights saying 'leaning out of this window is forbidden'. Included in the on train info' it also said:-

"any reported incident of passengers etc exposed from open windows carries significant risk to your safety and our stewards will ask the passenger to return to their seat forthwith"

I enjoy main line steam and would prefer it to continue......

I know, but at ISO 3200 it's not the best is it! Had it been on time there would at least been some daylight.
I hate to say it, but I got a better shot of a 158 going the other way...and even that was at ISO 2500!

Indeed!! It has been stopped for a very good reason, the lineside just isn't far enough away from trains these days. The vast majority now realise and accept this, there are just one or two who don't appear able to read or travel without constant supervision. Always a minority that will try and spoil things for the majority.

Unfortunately those who continue to ignore the instruction "know what they're doing" and are confident it "won't happen to them" as I'd hazard a guess did the young man who lost his life on the Gatwick Express.... The report of the incident and ORR response can be easily found on google.

The current exemptions for coaches with opening windows expire on the 31st March 2023, lets hope no one gives the ORR a reason to bring the exemptions forward?

I understand that Mr Moyles has now been deemed persona non grata by some TOCs for his refusal to comply with the window rules.

If it comes to the point of all T.O.C. strictly forbidding windowhanging full stop or risk been booted off the train i wont mind having to stay in my seat just to see mainline steam continue, Because anyhow sat down we can still hear the chatter of the loco and thus more travelling on vintage trains its either stay seated or risk getting booted off the train already.

If he refuses to comply with the rules......................black list his booking applications, don't accept bookings from him. The fella can't see that the rules apply to everybody, no exceptions.
His 'persona non grata' status is self inflicted and well deserved. Not long ago a young woman was decapitated when she stuck her head out of the window of a moving train.

Didn’t seem to bother Mr Moyles on Saturday.
