No idea why my two paragraph comment on Robin's picture got put in quotes as well as his caption.
This isn't an easy forum to post on!

The last Quote part ( this bit - [ /QUOTE ]) was in the wrong place at the end of your comment rather than the quote. I have amended your original post and corrected the quote to the correct format for you.

Also, the vertical lining does not appear to be vertical. See image below with a reference rectangle added...

For those wondering, the overnight sets are both 4 coaches formed from set N (the teaks with probably a mark 1 or two to make up numbers).

How does that compare to last year?

Set N was used last year also. Heard it’s preferred due to lack of compartments which tend to be used by people taking them up for use as beds, therefore limiting capacity.

If sleepers in compartments don't move, sit on them. Unless they have paid for 4 tickets.

All very odd. Let's call an end to all this. I'm sure it will be put right eventually.

I think I did the same 5 years ago, but have ordered the WTT to decide which day to go.
Does anybody else do this on here?

I know that SVR state that you can buy a WTT for their steam gala via their website but I also note that for their previous diesel galas you can get the WTT with allocations online without the need to buy one. For example they are available on PLEG. So why do you have to buy one for the steam gala and not the diesel one? And therefore why is the timetable with allocations not available online? Seems to discriminate against steam fans somewhat???

It's kinda of the way it has been for good few years now. The ASG WTT is more complex that the diesel gala (which is generally 5 sets + a local). The railway prints copy for staff so it might as well print a few more and sell them to cover the cost.

They seem to like printing an over complicated all encompassing bible and charge £5 ,when most would then probably put the loco numbers on the daily timetable and bin the bible .
By all means charge £5 to those not travelling but if you've paid £50 plus for a muti day rover what locos are on which train should be provided without £5 extra.
If the same policy applied to diesel galas the roster would quickly be available on a website or FB group FOC as no roster means less tickets sold as the market is more loco specific than Gas Works Loco etc .

Diesel fans won't attend unless they can get a TT with loco allocations in advance FOC. They are also more "tribal" in terms of what they will ride behind and what they won't.

Given the railway needs to make a financial return (otherwise we all lose) I dont begrudge paying £5 for a copy of a document that will have taken many hours of voluntary effort to produce. I also buy a ticket whether I travel or not as I consider it a ticket to see the show.

I'm not (quite) old enough to have been able to see working steam on BR but from everything I've read wasnt a major part of the hobby the excitement of not knowing what was going to turn up next? If you really begrudge that fiver for the WTT keep it in your pocket and relive the glory years for free!

Just seems really strange that the same railway has one way of doing things for diesel galas and another for steam.

Do not begrudge paying the fiver. It is just that when things are available online in advance you can pre-plan moves in order to have enjoyment of all of the locos available on the day.
