The loco is a 31 from Nemisis, we are at Landor for it to be attached. It will only be going back to its base, the 8 and stock heads home tomorrow.

Looking at pictures level of coal in the tender looks low . It may well be wrong but suggestion that it wasn’t fire risk , more lack of fire ...... risk

Had the same at Sheffield Midland a few years back on a Scarborough with Leander. 4 girls in full 'kiss-me-quick' regalia going to Cleethorpes dived on and grabbed our table. Took several minutes of patient explanation to convince them to get off :D

Today's pictures on a very warm and sunny Sunday, firstly passing under Edstone Aqueduct.

Then take 2 at Danzey, same shots as the first run but this time in much better light:

Yes you are wrong, coal was waiting at Burton for the trip back to Carnforth.

Sunday mornings outward leg at Elford. Followed by the Monday morning ECS as it departs from Burton Nemesis at Clay Mills with the pumping station as a backdrop which was also had at least one of its four beam engines in steam on the Bank Holiday. IMG_8648.JPG IMG_8672.JPG

    An interesting couple of posts.

In the grand scheme of things it's all somewhat irrelevant as I'm sure everyone had a nice day out and they got back home more or less to time. But my money is on the problem being a coal shortage en route as @Sidmouth suggests. We are talking about a Sunday here and I would be amazed if, given the forecast, someone at NR (or WC for that matter) looked at the sky and the mercury around lunchtime and decided that now it would be a good idea if the 8F were assisted home for the last 40 miles or so because of a fire risk. That would have been a concern for Wilmcote bank much earlier if the reason.

Not sure what if any of the photographs posted can give an reliable indication of how much coal was in the tender and its rather a rash accusation to be made at a TOC without evidence.

No accusation - rash or otherwise - but it was curious and I think the options have been covered.
