There are, I believe, a lot more hoops that need to be jumped through beyond gauging before she can run on the mainline under her own power.

Here is my montage of King Edward II and her successful 2018 campaign. Let's hope she keeps up the good work for this year. Enjoy.

2A4DFA39-E3D4-44F4-967F-0DC7D95C6EA9.jpeg Went to the GWSR on Wednesday and had a ride behind 6023. It was wonderful she put on a pretty good show especially through the tunnel. For my first time seeing the engine ever I don’t think I will forget it in a hurry.

By road, and end of August, she's in use every operating day up until then I believe.

I had 6023 on the early turn today. She’s due to run until the August bank holiday. Photo from 05.30 this morning!

6023 withdrawn from service due to a mechanical failure. Trains due to be hauled by her will now be hauled by a diesel.

Broken Spring . depending on spares availability and labour , space to effect the repair shouldn't be too long

Thanks everyone, sounds like a simple fix - hopefully back in action by the weekend. Look forward to a ride behind the beast!

The King leaving Winchcombe this morning on the 1138 to Broadway. Was this the last day of running on the GWSR this year?

Latest Railway Magazine suggesting mainline dream has been abandoned, and 6023 to return to original full size. Seems a shame after all the hardwork...

Oh! :( Whilst with a rational mind it does make sense, it must have been a difficult decision for the guys involved to make given all the work they've put in, I feel for them. I suspect it will always be welcome on the GWSR for what will now be the best chance to stretch her legs a bit though, so some comfort. :)

Better than it being stuck at the Fish Dock at Temple Meads in bits as it was though.

It's the economics - sadly. The cost of meeting main line requirements may be greater than any extra income hence it becomes a "vanity project" and that cannot be afforded by many preservation bodies. Congratulations to the owning group for biting the bullet and accepting the economic case for restricting work to heritage lines - limited as they may be. There are a few lines capable of supporting the Kings restrictions and I wish the owning group all success on running over them.
