    Dalesman 8F 1b (2).jpg

With a fortunate break in the weather, 48151 accelerates away from Grayrigg loop with the northbound 'Dalesman' , Mick Kelly driving with Frank Chippendale
    firing and Roly Parker Guard

    Dalesman 8F 4b.jpg

Much improved weather sees another round going onto the fire as 48151 trundles through Kirkby Stephen with 1Z56 the return 'Dalesman', David Blair
driving, Martyn Soames firing and Roly Parker Guard

After all the gripes about this and that about today’s performance from 48151 surely the well-being of a poorly passenger outweighs anything said on NP . Hope the said passenger is ok .

I’m just glad the old freight engine is still doing it’s stuff on the mainline. Be a sad day if this loco is not allowed out on the Mainline again sometime in the future. So what if it delays a few faster trains it was here way before they were so crack on little work horse keep doing what you do best

An 8F isn't the ideal loco for the WCML, but then again, the best loco is the one that's in steam and ready to go. Rather like the best camera being the one you have in your hand at the moment you spot a picture. I'm sorry BIL wasn't fit but glad the train had a steam loco on the front doing all the work. There was some lovely light at Ribblehead at 16:30. Full dull when she finally went by about 17:10 but at least it wasn't raining.

48151 seen at a wet and windy Shap Wells and a sunny Birkett Common.

Not sure BIL would have liked 13 coaches in weather like that in the morning.

48151 rounds the corner at Birkett with what looks like a full Train of happy passengers.

Certainly a day of two halves as far as the weather was concerned for you Austin, good to see that you are in action again.

455 +or - a few, and the 40 in my coach, most of whom were first timers had no complaints. Keeping them informed personally, in addition to the PA announcements, of what was happening and why, works wonders.

Certainly a day of contrasts Ralph. I've not been out of action, just not posted for a while as I got fed up with all the adverts and jumping screens on here, but I'll learn to put up with it!
Many thanks Victor, it was worth getting a soaking to see that climb of Shap

Am I right in thinking this isn't the first time the 8F has gone over the S&C with 13 on?

Isn't there also PSOV footage in 1996 (I think?) where it has 13 on it? This I think led to WCRC reducing the load significantly.

13 up Shap:Happy:.............and it never slowed/changed beat etc, it was as if the crew set the controls at the bottom and just left the 8f to do it's stuff (and it certainly did that in spades. What a fabulous video by Mr acw71000.
