It’ll be turned on Maindee Jc, with a diesel taking the train from Maindee North Jc to Cardiff.

The locos will sound good at Sapperton with 12 coaches and a diesel to haul. :) <BJ>

(Reversing) approach into Cardiff from the east, running ca. 17 minutes late; quickly 'processed' for brevity.

It was very noisy at Sapperton this morning as the duo blasted steadily up to the summit hauling 12 coaches and a non active class 47. An impressive sight. <BJ>

Do you know why the train was on the down main (especially when limited to 60MPH). Not that common let alone on a weekday.

There was an ECS train entering West Ealing depot just in front of the train. As the Cardiff special was late leaving Paddington it may have been to avoid that.

Cheers, I was extremely lucky today, as for the outward run I had planned on going on the other platform furthest away from the fast lines.

I beg to differ, the second shot was nice to see , and at least in the first shot the loco(s) opened up before of screen.

Thought Standish would be good for a double header, as you can get a decent sideways on shot. Shame the performance wasn’t very impressive until the end.

The duo were having to work hard on the climb up Sapperton, as the diesel was just there for a ride, so an equivalent of 15/16 coaches for class 5's to pull ! I think this time the inclusion of the diesel aided in the spectactle, a rare opinion from myself. Speed wise, it looked like low to mid 20's !

So, the last double header up Sapperton was ??? 4965 & 5043 ??

I was at Chalford viaduct foot crossing and the noise was pure thrash, I thought the Black 5 on her own in May was wild but double the power was extra bite and it was good to hear the 47 just ticking over when it passed through, could hear them all the way to the tunnel, upload vid tomorrow
