Is that Jeremy we're talking about? Diane Abbott will not be pleased with your comments. ;) <BJ>

It most certainly is not! :Muted:

The surnames are different for a start, PLUS, I'd rather know James than Jeremy.......... he may have his failings, but at least he's not a complete prat. :D

BTW who's Diana Abbott & what's she got to do with the MHR & its day to day running?.......... PLEASE don't answer that - politics has no room on this thread! ;)

OK - serious post time........ :Saywhat:

The freight is out to play this weekend end! :) :)

It will be doing two round trips each day running non stop from Arl to Med on the 1st run & booked to stop for water on the 2nd..... and just to add to things - 506 is the booked loco, so she'll be doing what she was built for. :D

Brake Van rides on the QMB will be available of a 1st come 1st served basis, for a suggested donation of £5 one way - the QMB will be on the London end of the rake, so you'll get to hear the loco belting up Medstead bank!

So I suppose the sight of an S15 on a goods train for the 1st time in many a year will give the Urie lads a valid excuse to down tools from working on 499 to watch their 'baby' charging through Ropley........ o_O

    Freight timings.

    Arl Dep 11:58 - Med Arr 12:15

    Med Dep 12:30 - Arl Arr 12:48

    Arl Dep 13:50 - Med Arr 14:15

    Med Dep 14:30 - Arl Arr 14:48

506 looking right at home & doing the business with the troublesome trucks today! :):)

Seems that rides on the QMB have proved popular today. Hopefully the same will happen tomorrow, as knowing who the crew should be - 506 will be singing!! :D

I even noted that the Urie lads had turned out 'mob handed' today & duly downed tools to watch their charge run through Ropley when we were on a bit of a jolly on the 1st up run!:) But to be fair to them, when we had a mooch around Ropley later, they were in the process it would seem of trial fitting the LH cylinder to 499....... :Jawdrop:

Watched a video of Saturday's events on YouTube and I see that a BR green Class 20 has arrived on the MHR. Is this on hire to the MHR or here for some attention?
Looked like a busy but wet weekend with 506, 41312 and 76017 in action.

Nice to see all the trains well patronised both days & the rides on the QMB proved more popular than we thought! :D

@green five I'm lead to believe D8059 is there of a fair amount of time, folks were seen yesterday undergoing driver training etc - finally we have a diseasel in the correct livery for the period. :) :)

Thanks for the replies about the Class 20. I might be tempted to take a picture of it if it is still around for the open weekend!

Before commenting on the reason that 8059 is at the Mid Hants is because the owner is based ‘far away’ you should have had at least checked your facts prior to posting.

Nominally is not the get out clause. Your post was factually incorrect.

Maybe I should have used the word nominally? I'm not here to debate where 8059's owners based there are more important things to worry about.

As co-owner of D8059, the reason she has moved to the Mid Hants Railway has nothing to do with where I or the other owner lives and is both factually incorrect and false. To use the current in phrase - FAKE NEWS.

It would seem my Ropley Spy got himself all excited last weekend & it was nothing to do with sight & sound of 506 charging through Ropley at the head of the freight....... :Jawdrop: :Saywhat:

I mentioned about a trial fit of the LH cylinder on 499....... well, it turns out the trail fit was a 1st time permanent fit!!! :Jawdrop: :Jawdrop: :) :) :)

So the 1st major step in 499 joining 506 in traffic sooner rather than later - well done lads! :D

Finally biting the bullet and taking my little ones to A Day Out With Thomas. Probably tomorrow as it is supposed to be torrential rain on Friday. A few questions:

    1. How crowded will the Ropley carpark be (we normally drive or train to Alton) and how early would we need to get there to secure a space?

    2. Apart from Thomas and the Class 08, what would be running?

Did 499 suffer from the same corrosion problems that beset 506? that looks like a new front end plate

Yes, 499 was actually in a worse state than 506. Nine foot was replaced on 506, 14 foot had to be replaced on 499.

Can't help with car park question.
Should be the 9F and the S15, with the Hampshire Unit running shuttles between Alresford and Ropley.
