About 15 minutes before Britannia was due at Ais Gill the heavens opened.

    They stayed opened. Britannia-(27)-casg.jpg

The weather was a lot better on the northbound than it was on the return.

Terrific!! A grand - and nicely noisy - show from 70000. Particularly liked the spectating horned skull at, I think, Waitby.........

    Cheerz,

70000 really seems to be running well at the moment, hope it is on the Saphos trip on the 14th August.

It's a pity that I can only give one 'like'. Superb photography but you need to convince me that the footage at Ais Gill hadn't been subject to some post processing speed adjustment!

    Cheers guys, very much appreciated.

The speed over Ais Gill was quite astonishing, one of those goosebump moments when you first hear the sound approaching up Mallerstang and know something special is happening.

I gather that the crew really like Britannia and everyone felt comfortable with seeing what she would do. So they did.......

It's such a shame there was no timer on board that day. Suppose RTT was right and it was 24 mins from Appleby to Garsdale. Deduct 3' 30 to Ormside and 3'30 from Ais Gill to Garsdale and you have 17 mins for the 15.7 miles. That's the fourth best in preservation and far and away the best class 7 on record. Add a 12th coach on and what would you add to the time? --- maybe 5%. Even then 18 mins would put that run easily in the top ten with all the others being class 8s. Tremendous by the Brit with T. Jones and M. Wylie and great to have the pics and videos they can put in their scrapbooks.
