Nearing journey's end and in failing light, BR Standard Class 7MT 4-6-2 No. 70000 Britannia rushes through Acton Bridge station on the return to Crewe.

Well great day out yesterday with Britannia for those that complain about mk 2 stock i was ten coaches back and the sound was awesome on Aisgill and Wilpshire and some very fast running from Leyland to Wigan where i left the train.
Saphos have definitely raised the bar in presentation and quality of there trains and the price at the moment is unbeatable.

Thanks Henry. The grey box and lineside vegetation have restricted the other option closer to the high overbridge

I have heard that last week's southbound run from Appleby to Ais Gill was something special (supported by SGT's video at the summit) - speeds in mid 50s all the way. Can anyone confirm, was anyone timing it, anyone seen anything posted elsewhere?

A bit of maths on the train passing the camera in SGT's final shot gives a speed of 46 mph so as you say, it does seem to have been a quick climb.

Hangmans bridge (or site of) to the Ais Gill road bridge is 33 seconds for the Brit and 71000 on 5th February 1994 is 32 seconds roughly just by youtube :);) It's just over a half mile so est 53.9??

edit:- on 29th May 70000 took 40 seconds for same section!

    Were you driving Mike?

Appleby--Garsdale 24 mins according to RTT. That puts the Blue Riband section from the start of the uphill at Ormside to the summit board at around 17 mins. Not far off even time up the hill!!!

Can you find a twelfth coach so LSL can enter the competition and we can all come along for a ride on Wednesday to witness it?

    Moore Lane Bridge. 08:07 am.
My first attempt at a shot of this recently cleared and somewhat poignant boyhood spotting location. The sun shone if a little weakly but undergrowth is recovering far too quickly !

The original LNWR route to Warrington is in the cutting on the left hand side replaced by the elevated route in the 1890s to cross the Ship Canal.
On 13th May 1966 D322 hauling the Euston to Stranraer sleeper collided with runaway wagons from a preceding goods train roughly where the last 3 coaches are.

Todays footage of 70000 at Chapel Lane Hoghton and Selside. Note the tree growing on the bridge at Hoghton, time network rail did some gardening I think. There are actually 6 trees growing out of the masonry
