Many thanks for this. I too have missed the regular updates, and those detailed pictures of chunky great lumps of beautifully machined steel being assembled!

Brilliant news! Who says we can't still trade with Europe and achieve a positive result?

It makes you wonder whether other main-line locomotive owners might not do well to pursue a similar strategy. I guess the obstacle is raising the capital, though.

You’d need to own at least a brace of locos with common boilers though unless you were really flushed. Black 5s and some GWR stuff, Bulleids etc?

Isn't that what Ian Riley's doing with the boiler from 44901?

I suppose it is. Easier when there's already a suitable boiler in existence!

A very good piece on the progress with the P2 on BBC Look North Yorkshire at lunchtime today. Footage of work being undertaken on the loco at Darlington.

Great to see FEA being well used. 180 MPA peaks, just goes to show how conservative most of these components are per DWG.

    Heres the link per above:

It makes absolute sense to pony up and get 2 boilers ordered in the one purchase. There are savings to be had in the material procurement, and surely contract leverage in the fact its two and not one, so the markup is slimmer by lieu of the settlement being larger.

This action of having a spare kettle at hand de-risks the whole operation long term also. Overhauls can now take mere weeks if pressed hard instead of potentilly years.

Secures Tornado long term and brings that P2 ever closer.

Several new build proposals have started from the premise 'there's this spare boiler... ' How long before someone suggests building something like a Thomson pacific utilising the third boiler?
