Not really sure where this should go so started a new thread.

Just got a brochure from Saphos saying ‘Fellsman’ tours are now only running 3 wednesdays in the summer and start at Crewe, picking up and dropping off at Hartford, Warrington, Wigan, Leyland, Blackburn and Clitheroe and will be hauled by either 46100, 34046 or 70000. Meaning the end of WCRC Fellmans and now direct competition with Dalesmans.

It was probably inevitable with Statesman and subsequently ‘Fellsman’ now in the Hosking Empire but it’s a shame there are now only 3 trains. Especially when they regularly sold out quickly when it was every Wednesday all summer.

Let's hope these run in exactly the same formation as WCR operated them, otherwise it's a downgrade !

I suspect strongly West Coast will fill the void with something.

Times for 29 May now on RTT. Only looks to have a water stop at Appleby, Crewe - Blackburn - Appleby is 124 miles. Anyone with any thoughts / info?

0940 Horrocksford 1040 Hellifield looks OK David. Not sure exactly where though.

I suspect there is a water stop between Horrocksford Jn and Hellifield.
The running time on the LSL schedules is about 55 minutes and the normal railtour running time (without engineering allowance or pathing time) is about 25 to 30 minutes. Details should appear on the NR special traffic notice as a location note giving a mileage and perhaps a bridge name and number.

    Cheers, Neil

Thanks guys. I thought that the overall journey took a long time but hadn’t looked close enough. I recall that locos have watered from an over bridge in the Horrocksford / Chatburn area in past.

    Evening all,

Has anyone managed to figure out where the water stop will take place on Wednesday before Hellifield?

    Thanks in advance.

According to RTT there is NO stop shown between Crewe and Appleby for water -- Appleby stop 11:50- 12:15 for refreshments - BUT I suspect a road tanker fill at Chatburn given the extended time between Horrocksford and Hellifield. As I'm travelling on it this week I will confirm after the trip.

Chatburn. Needs to be out of the way of the unit behind it at Clitheroe/Horrocksford.

Anyway 25 mins Hellifield to Blea Moor box looks like a really good climb. That's 20 mins from Settle Jct. Reports awaited with interest!

I was wondering where the Royal Scot headboard had been put on. It can only be Appleby if it wasn't on when it passed you.
