Agreed, there's too much crammed into a small space, a traditionally shaped board with just Saphos Trains would be much more in keeping. Put that design as the emblem on the coaches maybe..

Quick and dirty GPS data from my phone suggested a minimum about 34 from memory. Don't quote me tho. I'm hoping there is a "professional timer" on board

Wouldn't be too far off that ! Mine is about about 1mph either side of accurate when I've compared professional timings with my own Sat Nav readings. A great climb that was considering the restart at Grayrigg. The crew must of really worked her hard through the gorge !

70000 & 45690 were certainly rolling back the year's over Shap, very hard to pick a winner, I might just lean towards the Brit, given the Grayrigg restart and the fact we haven't seen a Britannia in full flow up Shap for a long time, Sensational Steam Scenes !

    Superb footage.

We were a fair way back, in the brown and cream Pullman liveried coach and even sealed in there we could hear the loco working up Shap!

With the moody looking Coniston Fells as a backdrop, No. 45231 'Sherwood Forester' sporting an 'Emperor of the North' headboard works away from Kirkby in
Furness Station with the return leg of 'The Lakelander' rail tour to Crewe

    Britannia 1b.jpg

Nice to see a Brit in full cry as No. 70000 'Britannia' approaches Scout Green with the northbound 'Lakelander' rail tour from Crewe to Carlisle

I wonder if the Grayrigg start might be an advantage, stopping there mean the fireman has more time to recover from the climb to there and then have a good charge down the Lune Valley. ponder.gif
