Lovely weather on the S&C today as 48151 heads today's 'Dalesman' rail tour northbound through Selside with Mick Rawling driving and Rob Russell on the
    shovel

Didn't stop at Appleby as we didn't need to (plenty of water)! Also meant that we arrived at Carlisle on time :)

Barely a hint of exhaust at Lunds, northbound in 20°+ temperatures.

Don't know what's been going on with the BR emblem on the tender. There's hardly any of it left . Looks like somebody's been over-zealous with the cleaning cloth. The one on the other side is a bit more intact.

It's been like that on one side for 5 years now, gradually getting more worn. No complaints from me though. It's an 8F, the rough and ready look suits it.

It's still more legible than it was on 25th June 1967 at Kingmoor. 04-Stanier-8F-48151-Kingmoor-25-jun67-casg.jpg

If only she had known then what an exciting future she had ahead of her.... If she was still in service then she must have been a reasonably late arrival at Barry*?

Actually checking she arrived at Barry in September 1968 and thus was one of the last arrivals, arriving some 7 years after the first GWR (subsequent) survivor (5552 May 1961) had arrived at Barry!

And captured quite unintentionally in 1973 waiting the call back to better things.

I believe that we will not be stopping at Appleby in either direction today.
