    Part 5

    Day 7
We arrived at a by coach in good time for our departure. The Diesel pulled us North to Falkland siding before being detached, after waiting for service trains to pass we headed south via the freight only line to Mauchline. Hauled by 1264 & 44871. After a pleasant ride through Ayrshire, followed by Dumfries and Galloway we arrived at Carlisle where 1264 & 44871 would be replaced by 35018. A member of staff on platform 1 was insisting everyone stood behind the yellow line while taking photographs of 35018 in the adjacent sidings, there was not even a train due, and one of our stewards was spoken to for placing a foot beyond it.After a few photos, liquid refreshment was required so a second visit in a week to 301 Miles on platform 4, for a pint of Pennine Natural Gold. Once refuelled I re-joined the train and we headed down the behind 35018 S&C to the Ice Cream stop at Appleby. On arrival There was already small queue for the Ice Cream and after purchase headed over the footbridge for a photo as well as a visit to the Friends of the S & C shop, before enjoying my black current ice cream on a rather chilly day. After an entertaining run to Ais Gill, our Chicken and Wild Mushroom pie arrived, with Les the train manager looking enviously at us as he passed through, he was having to lamb instead, we kept on telling how good it was. After a stop start run down the Aire Valley, sensible pathing through Leeds, being held outside York, departing 5 late, and after a brisk running we arrived at Scarborough 8 early. After a few photos headed to the hotel for the night. Scarborough seemed very quiet for a Friday so headed down to the main street to the harbour to find a Fish and Chip shop open, most places had closed or were about to closeD. IMG_4151LR.jpg

Day 7 was my last day on GB and I headed home the following day, even had an HST from York to KX, which I had seem numerous on the run to Aberdeen and back.

Thanks to RTC - Kelly, Les, the stewards etc, West Coast, all the support crews and The Gravy Train for a very enjoyable 4 days.

In a recent interview in SR, it mentioned that with Kelly's hospitality background a GB '13' would be avoided at all costs!

Finally getting round to sorting out all my photos from a trip to Scotland, 3 of the most frustrating weeks of my life. My sincere apologies to all the photographers who were chasing the various trains and got clean bowled by the cloud... I either got sun and no exhaust or exhaust and no sun.

Thank you to everybody involved in the running of the GB once again, same time next year?!
