    "Goods Galore Gala – 11th & 12th May 2019
Our goods-themed showcase of how Britain's railways moved goods around the country, becoming a lifeline to towns and villages ahead of the age of mass road transportation.

Expect to see many goods trains in service alongside a frequent passenger service with a named express journey each day, and shunting demonstrations.

Goods Galore is a unique action-packed event with a large number of train movements only possible on GCR's double track. We're showcasing a large selection of goods vehicles alongside our usual passenger fleet to recreate a busy main line in the age of steam".
    From the GCR website.
This will be the 4th year of this event and it has got better each year.

The advert in Steam Railway says that there will be 5 Goods trains. So three would be.... Windcutters, Box vans, Mixed Goods, then Engineers? Flat wagons? Should be a great week end.

I'm wondering how that cavalcade is supposed to work, or if it will suspend the service while its on? I can see why they are putting it onto a Sunday afternoon as galas seem to be noticing that Sundays are days when everyone has seen what's on and its going home early.

Could be interesting, could be something that others also do?

The idea is to put another diesel into service in the afternoon (class 45 is rostered) to keep passengers moving whilst the Cavalcade is happening. It’s the first time we’ve done something like this so we’re hoping it will keep people here all day on the Sunday!

Looking forward to seeing the two 8Fs in operation as 48305 is now running on the line.

In addition to the three sets you initially mentioned, they're also advertising a "Mountsorrel goods", Pway train and Parcels.

The parcels train will also be carrying passengers and there is shunting taking place in Quorn yard. Lots of action!

The Hall will go on display at Quorn rather than 46521 too.

Can anyone advise as to which direction the locos face please.

It looks to be a superb event. I'm hoping to visit tomorrow. <BJ>

    78018&46521 are facing North
47406 will be turned at lunch time each day so will be both North and South over the weekend
    All others South facing.

A really busy day on the GC. Sunshine in the morning and a sharp shower in the afternoon made for a variety of photographic techniques. Weather tomorrow expected to be even better. The box van train was very special.

Enjoyable time at the GCR today, though there seemed rather a lot less people about than I was expecting. Think it's the first time I've had the Quorn tin "beer shed" to myself (apart from the 2 staff) on any event there! At least they did seem a bit busier later in the day..............

The star of the gala on her first train back in public service. A very glossy 48305 climbs Rothley Bank yesterday morning. DSC_2665 (2).JPG

I thoroughly enjoyed the gala yesterday and thought it well worth the 270 mile round trip.

The weather in the morning and late afternoon was stunning. The highlight for me was the double-headed 8Fs hauling a full rake of blood and custards.

I made a quick count of the departures from Loughborough during the day. I made it 27 (please correct me if I'm wrong). That was busy!!

The late afternoon convoy of seven locos running up and down the line was a really good idea. The crews certainly enjoyed theirselves with all engines using their whistles.
I hope it didn't upset the residents of Woodthorpe. ;)

Can I thank the railway for organising such a successful and complex event. A quote from the old Are You Being Served comedy, ''You've all done very well.'' <BJ>
