No water tanker available, waiting on a decision, lots of conversations between crew.

Must be difficult for everyone...the unit at a red signal at KS for 30 minutes now, and assume the 50 will be at a stop now aswel. Where can they rustle up some water ?

Mental scenes at Appleby, I was listening in to the conversations, a few exchanges with the signalman too.

Isn't there some sort of bad blood between the operators of the water tower and WCR? Something about WCR refusing to pay the operator's water charges? Or has that been resolved now? I'm sure I read something a while back in one of the mags about it.

Whatever the reason...it's not a good situation to be in. NR will be hopping mad no doubt :(

Not forgetting the delays and corresponding disruption to Northern.

All on the move ?? !! Princess 62 late, Unit behind 120min late; at least the next unit left Ribblehead on time. Good luck all on the trains Looking back, I'm assuming that the hour standing waiting at Hellifield had a serious effect on the water ??

As we left Hellifield the train manager said that the driver had said he had enough water to get to Carlisle. Obviously that situation changed!

Presumably the driver took water at Hellifield; IIRC the NR calculation is around 72 miles on 4000 gallons which should be adequate for Hellifield - Carlisle BUT with delays a top-up might have been worth arranging for Appleby.

Bit on the limit. 76 miles from Hellifield to Carlisle. Lizzie never had the best reputation for being frugal with water. What's the load?

According to the PA at Carlisle, delays attributable to points failure, which was the reason we were held up originally at Hellifield.
