When I spoke to JC last year he pretty much said that "I can put another ten years on the loco, but can I put another ten years on me?"

I like JC, top bloke :)

Well thats it we only get 3 score and ten its up to the younger apprentices to practically and in theory to keep our loco,s forged and remettaled in our private workshops whats next on 60009 after its piston rings the boiler retubed this is what i mean it can cost £1000,000,s just to retube or remake some firebox plates thesedays even on industrial loco,s it can run to £10,s thousands and the blood sweat and practical knowhow to get parts welded or riveted on a boiler and brute force teamwork. if cameron decides ever to sell 60009 i think E.L.R. Would be best place 4 ovverhaul if so.

At Model Rail Scotland last month I asked an SRPS member whether the SRPS Aberdeen trip in May would be 60009's last? I was told it wouldn't be and as I probably can't make that tour I'm delighted it will run for another 12 months and hopefully get a chance to ride behind it. I'm also pleased because if 60009 didn't get an extension there would have been a period with no operational A4 and with Bittern not running any time soon there would have been a limbo period. After 60009 is retired it will be extremely disappointing if only one A4 ever runs again which means I would love it if 60009 was bought by someone else (preferably Ian Riley) to keep it running.

60009 and 3442 are owned by the Cameron Railway Trust. It would be highly unusual (and possibly not legal) for a charity/trust to sell a prize asset to a private individual. The trust could however loan the loco to someone like Ian Riley, however John Cameron has previously insisted that the loco will not be overhauled again, so a loan seems highly unlikely.

I don’t think it was ever envisaged that it would be sold just a maintenance contract similar to that for 60103

I know - I was explaining the situation to Sam 60103 who seemingly thought it could be sold to Ian.

I didn't release that the trust owned the engines. Well I would love to see a loan arrangement so they could both keep running.

Never say never. It's not unreasonable to THINK that Mr Cameron meant that he would not fund an overhaul.
Yes, I know it's all speculation and praying and hoping that #9 gets a 'stay of execution'

Victor I think your living in hope unless J.C. Allows Ian Riley and co to give 60009 a 2nd major overhaul. Unless Ian Riley paid for its overhaul himself, (and I wouldn't be sure on that score if he loves UoSA. that much to put another 10 years on her) But a 14 month exension on its boiler ticket because I reckon a double headed A4 excursion to Aberdeen would be a fitting tribute for UoSA with 60007 over the Forth bridge before she gets retired.

What deities do I have to pray to to allow this to happen?

Double A4s at ferryhill! *heavy breathing*

Why not just chuck on Tornado and FS while we are at it!

Agreed! The first time I went to Ferryhill (aged 13) there were three A4's outside the shed and two inside. What a moment to savour from the past !

If I had to choose one more steam run before I die it would be 60009 out of Aberdeen . Those runs on the 710 am in 1964/65 are never to be forgotten.
