I feel sorry for the WSR PLC. Whatever they do someone criticises and/or complains about it. :(

(This post will probably generate a few replies to point out the things that people think the PLC have done, or are doing, wrong.)

You do have to wonder how some folk live on negative energy as above.

Meanwhile, on a stunning Somerset Spring day, I did a short shift at Crowcombe box to maintain my qualification and then switched out and had my first WSR ride of the season.

So you would rather the WSR paid the full hire fee and the work was done elsewhere?

I'm quite happy thank you very much.
    Enjoy your distraction technique.
There's further destabilisation of the railway coming.
So let's all pull together over a pigment change.

See you are twisting what I said to suit your own means.

You really don't think that the work and the paint isn't included in the hire price.
If you don't you need your head checked.

It’s not uncommon for an engine to be hired out at a reduced rate if the hirer is willing to paint it. Why would it be different in this case?

The problem is people start dividing the total weight by the number of axles and think that is the axle loading, whereas the reality is that the distributed weight on each axle is different and can only be established by accurate weighing and published in the BR Diagram Book. It's the max axle loading that is usually considered as the most important (but as stated other factors come into it as well) - D6948 for example, varies from 17 t 1 cwt (no. 5 axle) to 17 t 9 cwt (nos. 2 & 3 axles) at full fuel tank capacity. Which is why it carries WR Blue route availability spots alongside its '86A' shed plates under the Driver's cab windows.

These are the types of unpleasant, destructive posts which gets Nat Pres such a bad press in certain quarters. Why do this? What do you think this will achieve?

I must say it puzzles me. But then I don’t do ‘random’.

I gather D6948 has a working heating boiler, might we see some winter diesel working?

It does indeed have a working steam heating boiler but unfortunately it is temporarily out of the loco at the moment pending repairs following a leak at Christmas , and won’t be reinstalled before it goes to the WSR. Does make it a bit lighter still though.....

Even more so when the acting CME has connections from where the loco has been hired from?

Great news. Personally, as a branch line devotee, I think the diesel gala line-up is now better than before!

Whilst the Panniers, and the pending small Prairie are more than welcome, the one thing that worries me is the coal loading arrangements at Minehead. The current loader is fine for a tender loco, but seeing the acrobatics they do for a tank engine will surely lead to an accident. Surely they should think of getting a side tip bucket, they have been around since the 50's.

Are these 73's? I was in the area for Father's Day a while ago and took this at Nornvis. (No diesel pics since).
