I'll second that! I'll admit I prefer BR liveries - but, both 1306 and 246 look very attractive in their current LNER liveries. As it stands SSS2 could have at least 5 locos in BR black anyway - so the apple green will be a welcome contrast!

Ok my statement re repaints was a tongue cheek statement, but you are going to pay for another loco for the event. That means you have provided for this. Have you asked Mr Smith about getting SG? The answer from Mr Smith will no doubt be no but I think the question should be asked. That's assuming that the mystery loco hasn't already been booked.

Yes one was refferring to a well known jubilee that was superb the other week at the GC, i didnt realise i would start a new convo off, but i did forget that 44806 did appear in Br Green for a while (was not born and not thought of at the time it was!). I doubt that SG would be taken to SS&S2 but it would be nice if it was to visit a well known main line connected railway in the midlands for a gala, looked superb at carnforth, was too clean for my liking though :-#

    5690, how dumb am I! ](*,)

Mr Perfection you can only ask Mr Smith, if the answer is no then you haven't lost anything, if the answer is yes, well how good would that be for SSS2 and the railway. No harm in asking is there :smt002 :smt002

Well the gala really is shaping up nicely now and i look forward to the combination of Llangollens own Thompson buffet and the Beavertail at some point.

Carrog is going to be so much fun this year so don't forget to pay it a visit and Llangollens beer festival will be something not to be missed. There will be so much going on and so much we'll be putting on for you.

Still a few secrets to come out yet but keep reading SR and all will be revealed month by month.

We may have a few extras lined up for Gorsaf Berwyn Station this year too! Watch this space...

So dont forget to call in at Berwyn for refereshments! Berwyn is currently in the latter stages of its long awaited restoration, the station toilets have been re-furbed and the station exterior is now fully restored. The old station masters house MAY be completed as a holiday let by April 2009... should any steam enthusiasts staying for the whole week want self catering accomodation thats really handy for the trains! (Watch out for news as released by Llangollen Railway Trust regarding the holiday let.)

Good news that 9017 will finally be in a livery that will suit it. Bad news that it wasn't done BEFORE the SVR had it!

Will it be losing the stupid plates as well, given that it never actually carried them? Can't they be used on a Castle or something?!? [-o<

    9017 THE FACTS

9017 was at the top of the list for Steel Steam & Stars II (along with two others which will not make it) the idea of returning 9017 to the line she ran down during her BR life has long been a wish for many, returning her to BR black is the icing on the cake.

We are grateful to the Blubell railway for allowing us to let 9017 visit Llangollen as we are aware that they are not generally in the business of hiring out and they are in a locomotive shortage situation.

The request to paint her black was turned down at first and the reasons why were valid points, as the 6880 society do struggle with the word "NO" we were took stock of the issues the Bluebell were stuck on and adressed them hence the result we have to day.

We are indebted to Chris Knibbs, Chris Sheperd, Lewis Nodes and Roy Watts for thier belief that a BR Black Dukedog at Llangollen was worth a rethink......Thanks guys

    Now to dates

As of right now 9017 will come to Llangollen about mid March without Nameplates (left at the Bluebell for safekeeping) then put into a shed and repainted

Depending on the time of arrival (as yet still to be confirmed) there may be a week of photo charters on her own after which she will be put away until Saturday the 18th of April

During the Gala I can say there is an estimated 8 out of 9 days set for 9017 steaming so plenty of time to take your pics, ride behind her on the passenger or freight day or night, not forgetting doubleheading and headboards.

After the Gala there will be photo charter combinations of 9017 and two other locomotives

So if you want to see 9017 in Black at Llangollen don't come in 2010 cos it aint gonna happen again !

We have been informed that she wil stay at the Bluebell in black for a few months before returning to GWR green

If you'd put your hand in your pocket rather than wait for Steam Railway to do it, maybe it would have been?

May I just remind you Stepney60 that the Steam railway offer to pay for the paint had no influence whatsoever.

Danny offered it as a gesture for the exclusive, we ( the 6880 society ) would of paid for it quite happily as it happens this turn of events is proving quite popluar with offers to pay for number plates, shedplates and BR insignia.

There are even offers of help to prepare 9017 for painting at Llangollen.

Discussion's with the Bluebell have leds us to belive that the odds on painting her on site were not without problems mainly the lack of shed space and locomotive down time.

So i must correct you regarding the influence of Steam Railways offer

No no, you misunderstand me, the point being if the gentleman had made the offer to fund the painting himself it might have happened earlier.

Without wishing to open a hornets nest but a number of offers have been made over the years by photographers to repaint 9017 into Black at their expense and to the Bluebells benefit .

It was extremely nice to see 9017 in GWR livery at the SVR where it could be matched with appropriate rolling stock and this way we get the opportunity of the best of both worlds
