Couldn't see a thread for this event/weekend and think it deserves one. Big changes as reported by the NYMR, stating that additional work needed on 60009, which has been been replaced by City Of Wells ! Will 34092 run unassisted on 60009's booked trains, as I guess we're looking at load 8, as previous special trains like 60103, 46100 which all ran on their own ? I know the first morning run is always's banked by steam traction. IIRC she performed very well a few years back on the Autumn steam gala !

Very disappointing, but that's life I guess! Was looking forward to spending three days mid-week with No.9.

Yes it is disappointing - but I think Union couldnt be in better hands. Already, the boiler has been passed for an extension, meaning we will be fortunate to see Union grace the rails again before retiring. This has been a case of a delay in a part then effecting the maintenance programme to get the engine to return to traffic. Union, even towards the end of its operation still is posting impressive reliability figures, all helped by the programme that Riley Engineering have in place.

The work being done by Riley Engineering is first class, with parts and replacements being used to keep Union in excellent condition. In a few months time, we all will reap the benefit of this as Union will have a busy few months and this will be put down to an unfortunate delay. Perhaps a visit in Autumn might be possible. Heres hoping....

Meanwhile the Moors better have a banker on standby...

City Of Wells not trusted to run solo and not even a steam banker. Disappointing, especially if you're Southern and have made the long trip north.

I know it's strange. The fireman was leaning out the window smiling at Beck Hole while the diesel was shoving hard. I remember being on that run with Wells at the ASG and I've never seen anything go up that hill as quick as that ! Maybe the crews are not happy with her. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but will prob play it safe and stay south of Goathland.

Fire risk is high due to a lineside fire today, so assistance is needed on the 1/49 and return leg after Levisham.

There can be problems with adhesion on early trains at Beck Hole but even Sir Nigel has slipped to a stand at Beck Hole later in the day and required a banker to get going again with the diner.
There are a number of TSR's which will not help matters as well.

I understand that for the remainder of the week any assistance provided will be steam.

Mr Price confirmed that only assistance would be provided on the 1/49, so if it's
    steam assistance then that's great.

Challenging weekend from a lineside perspective and no doubt the railway had issues to deal with, but still a good weekend and the weather was great too !
