Indeed. This loco is a great addition to the main line fleet.

Another long haul for me but worth it. The locations are; Coniston Cold, Helwith Bridge, Ribblehead, approaching Little Salkeld (Long shot in B&W) Salkeld Viaduct and Langwathby on the way back.

Of all the luck in the world, this time the passengers in standard class had the pleasure of riding behind Bahamas instead of hearing the dam C.37 roaring away. They all could hear Bahamas staccato barking up the long drag unlike on the 1st trip which I was on dam!:D

I simply had to make the long trek up to the North West for my first shots of Bahamas in steam, pretty good day aside from the clouds not playing ball on the return. Thanks to everyone who has returned this gorgeous machine to the main line where she belongs, she sounds in great nick! Locations are Cononley, Helwith Bridge, Armathwaite and Ribblehead Viaduct.

So why was it "roaring away" on Ais Gill on the return? Any idea, particularly as from RTT the train was running up to 10 min early at that point?

The reason for the diesel taking some of the load should be obvious. The loco is straight out of the box after overhaul and to flog it over the S&C on its first couple of trips could be asking for trouble. The option, I suppose, was to run it in for an extended period on the KWVR or give it a couple of easy mainline outings. The latter helps to replenish the bank account a lot faster than the former.

It is clear from the videos of the return journey on Saturday that she was pushed hard up the hill on the return run, just as I reported from the first week (Post # 175). However I normally regard the Long Drag as the northbound run and this did not appear to me to be assisted on 9 February. But last Saturday the time from Settle junction to Ribblehead was 22 minutes, a six minute gain on schedule. Does this figure suggest a heavy shove northward also?

Just from observation at Selside on the first run and Sheriffs brow on the 2nd, the diesel was idling on the nortbound climbs.

Was certainly a good run behind Bahamas last weekend and certainly cant wait to see what else is to be planned for her later in 2019. Here's some footage I got from onboard last Saturday's trip, the majority of clips used in this video are either ones where you can hear the engine at work or are from stops in Appleby or Carlisle.

A little late, however, my contribution at Blea Moor on the out and in the growing gloom at Ais Gill on the return. As stated above, running early in both directions, probably thanks to the paraffin can protection, better that so we can enjoy 45596 for a good while yet.
