Wondered why the train was stopped at the signal short of the platform at Kirkby Stephen.

Due to Northern being on strike this is the only train on S+C today, so crew were requested by Network Rail to carry this out in case anything requires attention before services resume tomorrow.

I was intending to go to Oxenholme today, but on the way had this idea. The tunnel the loco's are passing over is the now disused Hincaster tunnel on the northern reaches of the Lancaster canal. I got the shot that combines my hobbies of steam railways, canals and photography, but the trees spoiled the effect for me :(

Train appears to have been stood between Cherry Tree and Pleasington for quite some time now.

Thanks a lot John, my attempts at a couple of other locations today could be considered frustrating failures, LOL!

A raw breeze today didn't help as 'Mayflower' pilots 'British India Line' through the Lune Gorge, Mick Kelly driving and Chris Holmes on the shovel with the 'B1'
and Mick Rawling driving with Frank Chippendale on the shovel crewing 'BIL' and Roly Parker Guard. Just as the last coach went out of frame the sun came out!!!

Done by the breeze!! although the conditions were superb

Unscheduled water stop. Pipes were frozen at Hellifield so insufficient water was taken. I understand a tanker was sent to Cherry Tree to top up. Now approaching Preston.

A shame there was nothing else running today on the S&C, with the snow and the sun out it was great conditions for photography. Also I would've liked to take the train up there to avoid any potentially treacherous roads, when I saw it was a bus I thought no thanks! Managed to not get my car stuck anywhere, currently on my way home through the seemingly endless 50mph roadworks on the M6...

With the sun dipping very quickly and the pairing sat in Kirkby Stephen station I thought that was that. Thankfully 61306+35018 started to move again before we lost the sun and made a fabulous sight at Birkett Common. A day not to forget in a hurry fabulous conditions for those out today. Cheers Simon.
