I was lucky enough to go over the S&C behind her. A wonderful day despite poor weather. She restarted the train twice without fuss on the 1 in 100 northbound following stops due to signalling problems.

For those without access to Facebook - LNWR Heritage have put out an update on the status of 45231 - indicating that an air-braking system is being added (replacing an existing through pipe?), as well as TPWS updates and a full re-tube. Sounds encouraging for more flexible use when she returns to traffic.

I don't think it was given a power classification, same as Big Bertha and the LMS Garratts.

Will a full retube reset the boiler ticket? Sounds positive and hopefully will be tested in time for the rescheduled Sugarloaf Mountaineer!!

No idea - although I believe a complete reset of the boiler ticket usually requires lifting boiler from the frames so if a retube is possible without doing this then maybe not (of course a recent retube may make it easier for the powers that be to allow a short extension)

I think you are right, as an out of frames inspection and test is required.

Others on here are probably better informed to make an actual statement, always thought a re-tube at 7 years, got you a 3 Yr mainline extension.

Glad to see she is getting ready for a return to the mainline.

(4)5231 was one of the locos that I used to see regularly at the GCR when my dad used to take me when I was fairly young (other regulars were 6990 and 34039- and latterly 92212)

I wonder if they will manage to tuck the Air brake pump away like the Riley 5s or whether it will be a more prominent location similar to 5029/70000?

I think that LSL will put the air pump in the same location like you said similar to 5029, 70000 & 46100.
