If you're a fan of roundabouts on the A6 I'm sure it's very nice.

I thought I'd read that he moved the Barclay from the Tanat Valley to Blackrod (a couple of miles up the A6 from Chequerbent) some months ago - but now it's for sale??? Craziness!

Does he not have someone who can put a hand on his shoulder and stay 'stop', whether that be friend or partner? In some ways I admire his enthusiasm but in others I just think 'You stupid boy' I'm sure he's not a bad lad he just dosnt seem to listen.

While I hesitate to engage in online diagnosis, could it be that there are underlying reasons as to why he does not seem to listen...

Maybe it is just me, but the fact that whenever he does something there is a thread on here taking the piss out of him smacks a little bit of bullying, especially given how deferrent people are to other figures in railway preservation. It is easy to take the piss out of someone like Stuart who is a small but somewhat deluded fry but I don’t see threads mocking others, for example let us say a certain former pop producer who has announced many grandiose schemes which have come to nothing.

The difficulty though is that unlike some others the gentleman in question, unless he is enormously wealthy, is shelling out massive amounts of money to no useful purpose.

None of us want him to get into financial problems as a result.

On the other hand of course he could have bought himself a small wooden bodied wagon or van and at least protected it against further deterioration with a good coat of paint...................

That, I suggest would be money very well spent.

  6. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that the South Bedfordshire Railway has an asbestos removal specialist...
I suspect if he had such a friend or partner he would either have stopped by now, or it would have been a very short-lived relationship.
I take great delight in chuckling at those at model railway showss who cluster round said gentleman, as if they still see him as some sort of celebrity. Alas, some of us still remember the godawful cheesy racket inflicted on society during the late 80s and early 90s.

If you continually say and do stupid things like repeatedly start new build schemes, announce ex-Barry restoration schemes, buy an underframe of a burnt out inspection saloon and announce its complete restoration, buy the remains of an AB tank and then swap the underframe for a distinctly dubious sleeping coach then I'm afraid you really deserve all you get.

Stuart regularly has appeared on here and appeals for cash from strangers and physical help like a broken record before willow-the-wisping to the next flight of fancy without achieving anything at all. He has had much valuable advice from intelligent and patient people and completely ignored everything.

Unfortunately for our hero he is now the proud owner of that sleeper which i would hazard an educated guess still contains materials that wont be accepted at the local tip. I cannot imagine anybody would be remotely interested in acquiring it. IF it has got the dreaded insulation in it the cost of eventual disposal could ruin him. Just wouldn't listen...

Are there not bigger, richer, better connected fish with equally delusional plans out there for you to fry? Why pick on this one person?

Has he stolen people's money? Has he destroyed property? Has he taken over projects and then trashed them? I could understand the threads if it was a warning that a fraudster was up to their old tricks again.

There are countless examples of ill thought out, poorly conceived, unfinanced projects on almost every railway in the UK. For example there is a discussion in the windcutter thread about a wagon which is being left to rot because no one is giving the owner donations to restore it, or the fact that £100,000 is to just buy 4110 let alone restore it, 'operational Collingwood', the promise by people to restore x,y,z locos and create however many apprenticeships... and so on and so further.

On the one hand you profess regret that he didn't listen, and yet you mock his failures - I am left to wonder why on earth would he listen to people who say 'You get what you deserve'.

Fundamentally, if he wants to set his money on fire by making bad purchases then fine but why make a thread about his activities every time? If he gets what he deserves then why should you care so much?

This is I think the second thread you've made about him. It is almost as if you are monitoring or stalking his facebook pages ready to pounce whenever anything goes wrong. It seems like knuckle dragging thuggish bullying to me rather than any real concern. Let's mock someone who is an easy target for their mistakes, but you've not really got the balls to go after the real charlatans and chancers who pop up in railway preservation.

Think you forgot racist sexist and gender biased in your summing up. Usually get extra points for that. Feel a twitter storm on the way.

Not stalking anyone on FB. Its an open page. Most of the comments on there are far harsher. Think the harshest comments were from the engineering company in Bolton that had the AB dumped in their yard and were expected to carry out the work for little or no remuneration! Ever so slightly negative feedback left ther... No doubt the sleeper is dumped on somebody elses land. I suspect that will not be going anywhere soon either whether they like it or not.

As the great philosopher Forrest Gump once said 'stupid is as stupid does'. Its not bullying, knuckle-dragging or thuggish to point this out when people are being asked to cough up for a lost cause private project.

Anyway cant stop to chat as have some Star of Davids to paint on shopfronts, books to burn and have a clan meeting to organise tonight

it does make me wonder if an asbestos survey was carried out before "sale" by the S&C and if it is present, was it legal to sell it and transport it?

A lot of coaches still contain asbestos (board, lagging and limpet insulation), and provided it is notified to the buyer and not disturbed or in dangerous condition, then it is the buyers responsibility. Some DMU's had it inside the steel frames, ETH-fitted coaches have it behind the heaters, and a lot of vehicles have it in switch and battery boxes... In reality, the buyer should ask these questions before parting with money

i wouldn't be too sure of that. This is a quote talking of motor vehciles but I'm sure they'd take the same view of a rail vehicle in poor condition

he HSE states that: ‘The supply, possession for supply and fitting of asbestos products to motor vehicles and trailers is now banned’ (1) You should ensure that you have parts tested for asbestos if you are in any doubt about them. You will then be issued with a certificate for the product which will illustrate whether the component is asbestos-containing or not.

Yes but that is motor vehicles not railway ones the rules are different although that doesn’t mean there are not responsibilities that need to be met.

Yes there was an asbestos survey done by the SCR for the sleeper, although I haven't seen it and have no details of it.

If it is known to contain asbestos, it must be sealed up completely before moving at the very least-going by the photos, this wasn't done. I'm amazed the haulier touched the job, unless they weren't told.

I think Mr Reeder is heading for a pretty major prosecution with this coach. Such attention will be damaging for preservation as a whole.

Doesn't this depend on what and where the asbestos is?

Most preserved railways have some of the stuff somewhere. Often, it's best left where it is - I believe usual practice with coaching stock is that if it's sealed in, and there is no need to mess with it, one leaves it well alone until such time as it has to be dealt with.

If the stuff in this coach is all sealed behind paneling, or is in the form of solid boarding, moving it shouldn't be a problem - it only becomes an issue if its loose and can get blown about.

Any reputable haulier would want to see chapter and verse on the issue, I understand that the rules re asbestos are changing in the not to distant which is going to cause chaos for a lot of organisations!

As for damaging for preservation as a whole, this thread could be viewed in the same manner.
