Might have been clearer if you had said 'the SVR was a prime example...' instead of the SVR is a prime example.....' ;-)

In some cases yes, but in others all this does is further wears the loco out and doesn't yield any where near the income to pay for all the extra wear and tear that occurs while in use on private lines, particulary with the bigger engines... And sadly unless there is always a competent loco owners rep present with the loco every time it is used it is most definately safe to say that with some crews the loco WILL NOT get looked after!!

True, but the same can also be said for some main line crews as well. You get good, bad and indifferent in all walks....

But at least on a main line run there can be an owners rep on the footplate.

about comments knocking the lizzie support crew, in fact any mainline engine crew.......
without starting a post war, as we all share a common intrest............whilst not being a member myself, i know first hand just how much time is and has been given up to overhaul and keep this engine running for us to see and take nice pictures of, I really do think "some" of you chaps really need to see just how much hard work and time and money goes into maintaining, preparing and running a mainline engine. And at the same time earn a living, and perhaps need a reminder that these engines are not just lit up and ready for the off on the morning of the trip!....and then just parked up at the end of the day. Most of you have some really valid points and are probably correct about the future of the engine(s) but before criticising any of the team that keeps her in your viewfinders, take stock of what goes on behind the scenes to get her there. by the way the term support crew includes the fundraising team too.

I know that some people like to gripe as it is all that keeps them going these days.
I for one would like to say a huge thank you to the PELS for the pleasure i have got from riding behind and seeing Lizzie over the years, IF after this ticket is up you all ( including Lizzie) take a rest then so be it you will have earned it my friends.
It,s not only Green Arrow that can take a rest.
Until then Keep up the good work we need all the red engines we can muster.

As depicted, the Lizzie mob have murdered their engine!

The engine was to go to Bury, the engines engineering base after its last mainline run to carry out the 12 month exams and repairs. Clives missus and Colin (the comander) wanted it to go to Crewe cause its there selfish wish, they had a vote and left it at Crewe.

As a result, the engineering team have resigned and walked away from the engine forever.

So Clive, Gill and Colin, you have your way, you aint got a clue wat to do with it apart from polish it, you selfish idiots.

So another star main line loco falls due to the ever present politics and power struggles that groups within this preservation movement are just oh so full of. Must be gut wrenching to have to walk away like that, I have been in a similar situation before and there just becomes a point when to walk away is all you can do, best wishes to those that have done such sterling work turning Lizzie out in fine fettle for so many years, thank you.

It's very sad when bust-ups such as this occur. The best bet would be to democratically dump these people, who have apparently not acted in the society's best interests & perhaps merge with the 6203 mob.

This is all very sad. I had a great run to York on June 6th and if it's true that this is the end....(sigh). I wonder if with 2 'scots, another king, another castle and a bulleid or two shortly to be available if a rest for a while might be no bad thing but I sincerely hope that it's not gone forever.
P.S. I see some abuse creeping in. Regardless of our feelings lets stay civilised.
P.P.S. And an A1 how could I forget that?????

obviousley youve not got all the details of whats gone on with lizzie "polisher" ..............so whilst your naming people in your posts. why not name yourself, and what experience you have of restoring and operating a mainline engine..........my guess is your a talker and not a Do'er, the kind that turns up once a month to change the toilet rolls in the toilets at the crewe.......then thinks he is a traction inspector or son of sir william himself, and has the right to criticise the people that really do the work and put the effort in, and have devoted years of thier lives to the cause, so these engines are out there doing what they do best. yes there are some politics going on, as with all these things. but id keep your views and personal name calling to yourself until you have earned the right to air them......and also until you are in full view of the actual facts, not just some rumours you overheard at the heritage!!! id stick to polishing, WHATEVER it is you polish, :-k ................the toilet roll thing is just a description, of what SOME people do at these places, BUT the VAST majority of the chaps at the Heritage have done an excellent job on turning the place around, into a place well worth a visit, so please dont think any of this is aimed at you!!!

  17. The same could be said about you not naming ones self too elfiste2!!

A trawl of Polisher's entire contributions to this site reveal a very embittered stance on anything at all do with preservation.

Perhaps when he, like Clive and others, has trouble counting their decades in the movement, or hundreds of thousands of pounds spent on their loco, on one hand, he will acquire some discretion and authority.

Until then a spell of silence and reflection on his part would not go amiss.

well said that man.....I am acutally Colins son, and have seen him (and his colleuges), spend well over twenty years dedicated to Lizzie , so although im no Sir william and will never claim to be, I can say at least I know a little of what it takes to keep the old girl out there...... So when i see people such as "THE POLISHER" putting down the crew it enrages me.......but it does give me hope there are some senisble people out there who can see thorugh such childish and unfounded comments!! thanks

Ah yes of course! I could not see the wood for the trees, you are spot on there my mate!, they are acting in the iterests of the Heritage centre not the loco, I forgot about their involvement there. Shame the loco is being sacfrificed to keep their own fires burning eh?

An what about the engineers who have been snubbed, does their many years dedication mean nothing?
