Yes and that really confused some passengers who got off the train and wandered to the north end of the platform where I was asked, 'Where's the steam engine gone?' I pointed out that this was the back of the train, and it was still at the front, the other end, but there was still confusion as they had not noticed the change of direction before pulling into the station......

There were a few who thought it would be steam to Carlisle and diesel back.

My daughter just enjoyed watching this and reliving the experience! Looks like your friend was only a few tables away from us in coach H, a good record of what happened and how enjoyable it was.

    Santa Special 3b.jpg

Heard coming from some distance away, 'British India Line' makes a fine sight despite the inclement weather conditions heading the second 'Santa Special' away
from Shap summit, Mick Kelly driving, Clive Gault firing and Roly Parker Guard

    Santa Special 4b.jpg

Passing the site of the old Shap Station, 'British India Line' going well with the return leg of the second 'Santa Special', Mick Kelly driving, Clive Gault on the
shovel and Roly Parker Guard. (Before anyone comes on saying 'Trespass Shot' it was taken from the right side of the fence)

Sad reflection of our times though Henry that it's even necessary to have to make the statement !
