45170, 62777, and 68095 are available to see within the Museum of Scottish railways which is open throughout the weekend. 80105 is under overhaul and at present no shed tours are planned so it is not likely that this will be an engine you can easily see. Ask a member of staff on the day and they may (no guarantee whatsoever) be able to take you across to the Std tank.

I am certain that I have seen a note to say that the Museum will be open on the Gala days. I will enquire this week and post when I get a definitive answer.

Your first three are all in the museum, although the 8F tender is elsewhere on site. 80105 is in the Romney Hut Workshop which is not a public area.

Contradictory postings on the SRPS site, museum open until 28 October and the Somme exhibit within it until 11 November, of course, reasonable to assume it is open, and it is extremely interesting, probably more so than the run which is nice but nothing special, the station recreation and museum are the highlights.

I was told that 80105 is out of view, in a workshop, and will not be viewable on the weekend.

I spoke to the Museum Director this morning. The museum will open at 11.00 each of the three days of the Gala.

I know it's a special gala, but that looks quite expensive, nearly as much as my rail ticket to get there, and it's still not a massive event. In for a penny in for a pound I suppose for this impoverished steam enthusiast student, baked beans and toast only until Christmas!

Going off on a tangent slightly, but can anyone say for certain when two CR engines last steamed together? I am not even sure what the last CR locos to be withdrawn from BR service were; no doubt someone can enlighten me! :)

Cost of staging the event is (very) high relative to our usual gala costs hence inflated ticket price. Ticket also includes entry to the Museum of Scottish Railways so be sure to take the chance if you have the time!

Slightly daft question. Is there a platform only ticket? The reason I ask is that I plan to be there on Saturday, but I may arrive in town on Friday afternoon, and would like a look early if I can!

We haven’t restricted platform access during enthusiast events in the past and I haven’t heard of any plans to do so this time so you should just be able to go in and have a walk around.

Thanks Steam. It's annoying to pay a tenner to get in, just to get a cup of tea! If I can get my ticket on Friday for Saturday, at least I will feel like I've put something in the coffers.

I'm thinking about coming up from Bristol for this event. Can anyone answer a couple of questions for me? Firstly is there a bus running from Linlithgow? Also does anyone know what age a child has to pay?

Our normal policy is that child fares apply 5 - 15 (inclusive). I can't see anything internal or external to suggest anything different for the Gala.

There is a public bus service from Linlithgow to Bo'ness on Saturdays but I don't think it runs on Sunday.

Child fare is for ages 5-15 inclusive.

There is a half-hourly bus service every day aside from Sunday, No. 45 or No. 46, from Linlithgow Station to Bo'ness town centre which is less than a five minute walk to the railway station. On Sunday the 45 runs hourly. Alternatively if there are 3/4 of you then you may be cheaper getting a taxi which costs about £10 from Linlithgow Station.

The tender for 828 is on her way to Bo'ness today, 419 is raising steam for more running in and the polish is looked out ahead of the gala!
