Hi Graham, did you mean Llanelli, as you and MellishR discussed in your earlier post (#140), rather than Llandeilo?

Peter, at the end of a very wet day in Manchester

PS having consulted the following link
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/BYE/2018/09/23/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt
and my Track Atlas, I note that the train is going to Llandeilo Junction, which appears to be between Bynea and Llanelli. That all makes sense to me now

The letter from Pathfinder says of Bynea "Not a lot to do there though". Rather than bail out at Llandeilo and miss 17 miles each way or spend over two hours at Bynea either competing for a seat in the on-platform bus shelter or walking the best part of a mile to the nearest pub, a possibility is to wait only until 16:08 and catch the service train back to Llandeilo. Or maybe try to get a taxi into Llanelli.

Hi Peter. Not many things are making sense about this train!! We hope it doesn't bucket down as they are saying it might.

Interesting comment in the letter about Huw Edwards being there for the water stop at Llandovery. We might all end up on the telly!

No sign of 45231 in steam at Crewe earlier, and having assumed already at Gresty when I was at Crewe earlier I whipped back from Stafford to find that the test run was D1924 and D1935.
    .
Update - outside the diesel depot with no steam visible.

Last chance is tomorrow for any kind of runs, otherwise we're in trouble !

Yellow alert for rain for Sunday for southern GB from a line between Preston and Hull. Potential disruption to public transport, and flash flooding. Yellow alert for wind south of Llandrindod Wells for Sunday. Again, potential disruption to public transport from fallen trees. (The CWL is a tunnel through trees for most of its length.)

In other words, it's going to be a deluge on Sunday. Remember to pack your dinghy.

I had planned to chase this one along the lineside, just because of personal history in the area concerned, however as I don't live that close any longer and it would be a very long, wet and probably poor light day , I will let those that live closer get blown along in their dinghies - keep safe all.

Not seeing any paths for tomorrow's test run, unless in runs through the night ? Doesn't seem to be many people that are concerned who are travelling, except me !
So the light positioning move is the test run ! Well, fingers crossed for that and for Sunday too !

After all the false starts and uncertainties I hope that tomorrow runs to plan. There remain many 'challenges'. The line is beautiful but tricky and it'll all be down to one loco when on other occasions two have been used. Given that the train is almost literally the first out of BNS and the last back...on a Sunday...there is no room for slippage. And I gather it will be wet before the train gets to Llandovery. But hopefully the return journey will capture a lovely sunset so be optimistic.

No sign of steam or any other activity at Crewe TMD.

I hear on the grapevine that 45231 has failed her FTR. I'm not sure exactly where this information has come from so please treat with some skepticism. Let's wait for 5pm and see whether she sets out from Crewe...

Not even surprised ! Can only hope it's minor and she'll get out late tonight or early tomorrow morning ! Either way, the silence from IOS, has been deafening !

Presumably waiting to decide between diesel and cancellation - given the weather forecast I would have thought the latter a no-brainer?
Stock appears to be waiting to get through SLW Symington-Abington.

The forecast has improved. The rain will clear earlier than expected, but flooding might still be a problem. The area's no longer covered by weather warnings.
