The WSR is running the "Somerset Day Express" with Raveningham Hall (currently rostered) upfront on 11 May 2018 between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead. A limited stop (Blue Anchor, Watchet and Williton only) special. Fares are discounted at £12 return. See https://www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/events/detail/somerset-day-express for details. See http://www.somersetday.com/ for details about "Somerset Day".

  1. Yes well done Signalman. But let's not be too hasty to criticise the platform staff - as a (one-time) WSR guard, I know only too well that doors can be opened after the train is on the move. Scary stuff.

I have read the "valuation" in question. I note that it is both unsigned and not on any kind of company letterhead, and does little more than state issues that need to be considered before forming a valuation, while avoiding detailed consideration of any of them, before summarising that if it's all too hard, it's fair to value at par.

I would take that as useful guidance as to the approach to a valuation, but would not consider it as anything resembling a valuation.

In the context of the two sites in question, one has to ask why they have bothered to post it, or whether they begin to understand the message it sends out.

Paul, in post 12619, I pointed out to Robin that of the two web sites I mentioned, one was a WSRA web site.

My partner has suggested to the WSRA that they teat the hysteria site as domain squatting and try to recover it. This is the link he sent them:-
    https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/policy-2012-02-25-en

He's not here at the moment so I don't know the outcome but it's an arbitration style process so not unduly
    expensive.

You also said you believed the other site you have seen is trustworthy - a suggestion which will have little credibility in this forum.

Don't be so sure about that, you probably meant thread. As they say, you can easily see through a five bar gate! :D
Basically you have WSRA looking out for their interests -which after all is what they are expected to do, and the locomotive web site people looking out for theirs. That is a balanced view as far as I can see for anyone not connected with both sides.
Note: to avoid further conjecture - often levelled at me, but from recent posts it seems that others are quite capable of it as well, :D I add that I am not referring to a 'history web site '; that was not one in my focus.

The ability to laugh at yourself...

A few weeks ago I spent some hours at a weekend lettering a Box van on the WSR. One side was close to the shed wall and I plainly didn’t stand far enough back to check my setting out before reaching for my brushes.

    Oh well, it’s only paint!

I know/knew several professional signwriters in the inland marine industry who have done that or worse over the years.

How many wll actually notice though?

Without naming names, I've seen the end of a mark one inscribed 'vaccum'

I read, many years ago, that for most people the brain can read and understand words, even if letters are missing. I did have to look at the misspelt word twice to see what was wrong. However, the van does look resplendent.

Whoops! Another reason I cheat and use printed tracing paper and french chalk - I get spell check! :D Took me quite a while to spot it though, and still a nice job.
