Visions of Black Prince slowly hauling the CCT along the line with disco lights and loud music coming from the carriage...

Maybe with the Muddle and Get Nowhere buffet car to really get the party going?

The NYMR ran a disco train for a while in the 70s using the Thompson BG as a mobile dance hall. It was... not an unqualified success.

Didn't Llangollen have something similar too? And didn't BR have something like it too?

It is always an absolute joy to read those C&W blogs: a benchmark in how C&W restoration should be done, IMO.

Well done to all concerned :)

The 2018 NNR timetable is showing an event on Friday 23 March but it isn't listed in the special events. Does anyone know what is happening on that day ? It's just that I am nearby Sheringham then, possibly with time on my hands, and wouldn't want to miss anything interesting :)

Jut read that the 04 class shunter that had been in store outside BRCS is leaving the railway.

Glad it will be restored elsewhere, it was a bit of an eyesore when entering/leaving Holt.

Was this the one that was planned to be restored with W&U tramway accoutrements?

I think so. Maybe it still will be at it’s new site. I guess as it wouldn’t have been suitable for NNR passenger services it was never going to be at the top of the ‘To Do’ list

The 04 was privately owned when it came to the NNR and did see some Pway work (contrary to what many people believe who think that "it never ran") before being stopped. It was later sold to the M&GN Society who I believe had aspirations to return it to Wisbech skirted condition, however this did not happen and it was eventually sold back to its first owner! Many more years followed in store before the owner concluded that the railway would not never have a need for three 204hp shunters. The 04 had no train brakes of any kind (air or vacuum) so even if restored to use would have been little or no use on passenger trains or trip workings. With all of the above in his mind I believe its owner made the decision to move it on some time ago, but was waiting for the right new home to present itself as he has the interests of the engine at heart. A quantity of spares have been kept with the loco (which is itself complete) so I personally believe despite its external appearance the engine has a real fighting chance of being a real good 'un once again. I wish the new owners at the GWSR all the best with the restoration.

Wonder if there is any possibilty of '92 Squadron' making a return visit to the line?

I realise the home fleet is very healthy at the moment, but would be nice to see '92' make a gala visit.
