I'd view this trip as another opportunity for a test run but with a full train and a minder just in case. No harm done.......

Any sign of the turning movement for 35018? RTT hasn’t updated since it departed for Coton Hill yard...

    James... waiting at Battlefield bank!

EDIT: arrived back 25ish early. RTT didn’t update until it got back!

    Really?

I’ve done a fair bit of maintenance work on 57s, and never noticed them being dual braked.

Possibly, but the WC policy is not to book a loco until its fully proven, according to the Chairman so they must be satisfied its fit for traffic.
As a general point too it is vital the fireman has unobstructed views to function safely as a sighter for the driver when needed. The escaping steam is clearly a hinderance in that regard.

BIL at Preston, the driver came on the radio (I assume to the signaller) and said ‘We don’t need any water’ and she left 10 early from Preston and missed Barton and Broughton loop completely.

did those on board know that they were getting BIL? or was the first they knew was seeing her backing down to pick up the train? if they were only told " steam from Carnforth" i bet phones must have been red hot, " we've got The Bulleid "

Took a splash at Crewe presumably so that the Preston stop could be minimised, and hopefully get an earlier path to Barrow.
