I've had an email from a volunteer on a railway asking for a FTR exam he can use on a their wagons. I don't know which railway and I don't know why he chose me to ask. I'm not even sure he's in the UK.
I don't do the FTR exams on the SVR, so I've got nothing on paper myself and I couldn't find anything in the SVR's on line documents.
I found mention of one on https://www.rssb.co.uk/standards-an...try-standards/heritage-rail-vehicle-standards but no link to the document itself.

Does anyone know where I can get something suitable that I can forward on to him please?
Is the railway equivalent of this available on line anywhere? https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/hgv-inspection-manual

Thanks. Coming from an HGV background, that looks like the equivalent of a driver's daily walk round check on a truck to me.
I'm guessing he's after something more like an MOT inspection standards list, something I'd be interested in myself if it exists.
I've found bits here and there on the web, but I can't find it all in one place.
Horn guide wear, coupling wear, brake pin wear, brake block thickness, brake lever travel, buffer height, etc. That sort of thing.
Are there official specifications for all these and are they all available in one document?

Thanks, that seems to cover pretty much everything.

Interesting have downloaded a copy for future reference. Brake Blocks usually have a vertical line cast into them about half way. The idea is once it has worn past the line then it becomes scrap. It is a similar idea to car brake pads that often have a groove cut into them and once it has worn to the groove they need to be replaced.
Apparently the West Somerset Railway can supply newly cast brake blocks.

Try getting in touch with Ray Plackett, Graham. He still volunteers on the P. Way when the weather is OK. He used to be a C & W examiner at Lawley Street. He may have some books. He gave me a lot of advice when I used to look after the P. Way's wagons.

    Regards,

I found the latest standard, 'Engineering Requirements for Steam Locomotives and Other Heritage Rail Vehicles' (RIS-4472-RST), published last December; it sounds like the one you were looking for. Here is the link to a downloadable .pdf file:

Thanks, that's the one, although now I've looked at it, it seems to be more about the legal side of certifying heritage rail vehicles for mainline use.

Yes, having looked through it, I can see what you mean.

I did, though, find this page on the HRA's website, with links to files of BR issued documents on maintenance and repair of BR Mk.I and Mk.II rolling stock, which list the various inspections to be carried out on overhaul and quotes such items as limits of wear permissible on key components:
    https://www.hra.uk.com/br-maintenance-specs

    It includes the following documents:

    13/02/2014 - AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS
13/02/2014 - CEPS 0162 OVERHAUL OF DOOR LOCKS
13/02/2014 - CEPS 1019 OVERHAUL OF VACUUM CYLINDERS
13/02/2014 - CEPS 1054 OVERHAUL OF BODYSIDE SWING DOORS
    13/02/2014 - CEPS 1066 OVERHAUL VAC EQUIPMENT MK1 AND 2 CARRIAGES
    13/02/2014 - CEPS 1067 OVERHAUL B4 AND B5 BOGIES
13/02/2014 - CEPS 1087 OVERHAUL OF COMMONWEALTH BOGIES
    13/02/2014 - GMTT0173 BRAKING SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
13/02/2014 - MT250 EXAM AND REPAIR PRIVATELY OWNED STOCK ON BR
    13/02/2014 - MT261 DOOR LOCKS TESTING
13/02/2014 - MT288 WHEELSET TREAD STANDARDS AND GAUGING
13/02/2014 - TM TP 0053 REPAIR OF MK2 AND MK3 OUTWARD OPENING DOOR AND STRIKING PLATE FIXINGS

    Very useful that link.

Does anyone know of any documents about SAB Brake Adjusters?
