Spent the day sorting out how to get our mini digger onto the hiab so that it can get to work.

Thinking of visiting for the winter gala. Whats nearest mainline station with a bus to the railway?

Best bet is get train into stoke then catch the 16 from hanley (think it picks up at stoke station)

Get a day saver which is £5 & jump off at the red lion, driver will let you know where it is. Then from there it's about a 15min walk to cheddleton station.

Agreed. Even if you're coming from the east, the connecting bus 32A from Uttoxeter Station to Kingsley Holt no-longer runs, so you either have to kick around Uttoxeter, waiting for the 32, or go to Stoke as suggested, which is further but quicker with more buses to choose from. I don't think the 16 (http://www.dgbus.co.uk) stops at Stoke Station but there's always a bus of some sort heading for Hanley Bus Station.

Any news on the extension to Leek, also what date was the AGM held last year?

Last update I saw was in November, which said that a planning application would be submitted "in the next few weeks". There's no sign of one on the SMDC website, at the moment, but the site isn't working too well after a power failure over the weekend.

What I did find, however, was a withdrawn application to demolish the Travellers Rest at Leekbrook.

Leek is in hand, hopefully an announcement can be made by the Spring.
AGM is normally held in November but due to a couple of issues has been delayed, hopefully this will be arranged shortly.

After the gala - OAPWay are back to normal winter duties - changing sleepers and now, with our mini digger, improving the drainage.

4277 is used to running in wonderful English scenery on her home line, so she must feel quite at home in that lovely part of Staffordshire. Running alongside the Churnet River and Caldon canal is a little similar to running long side the Dart.
Very fine photos Frank a great credit to you and the line enjoyable to see. The CVR must definitely have benefited with the loco line up at the Gala - despite wintery weather I hope it was well attended.
A while since I visited Cheddleton and Consall Forge I am afraid. I has relatives in The Potteries and as a youngster spent some time at Normacot and other loop line stations. Happy memories, particularly for someone who has usually been in GW territory. ;)

Is anything happening with the line to Stoke? I seem to recall a few years ago it was cleared towards Endon but I don’t think anything has run on it.

Strictly speaking, this belongs in the Moorland and City thread but nothing's been posted there in more than a year. "Network Rail are still dragging their feet" is mentioned in one of the later posts, so, I suppose, that might still be true.

Seems odd, if so - NR usually seems very sympathetic to vintage railways?

It can't help when outfits like the Trawsfynydd & BF get to work on NR property
