    Yes, 5029 was pilot and 5051 was train engine but I was told that the brakes were actually controlled from 5029.

    The driver of the lead loco must have control of the train brake. Either loco might provide the pump to compress or expel the air from the train's brake pipes, depending on how they're all connected. There's probably half a dozen variations, and has been discussed in other threads on here at great length by people far more knowledgeable than me.

    Anyway, this has almost nothing to do with the OP's question... ;-)
