Just popped into M4Mand saw KOYLI complete with 'Flying Thistle' headboard 'howling' up from Alresford - wonderful!! Spoke to station staff and they noted the reason for delayed running of the Deltic yesterday was due to the courier delivering the spares to Alresford Eseex and then getting stuck for several hours on M25!! This was despite package being addressed to Mid-Hampshire Railway....

The Mid Hants is in NEW Alresford. Having said that they should have managed to work it out. Delivery drivers. No brains. (Before I get slaughtered, I am one).

Yup. In fact I believe we let the lorry with the part into Ropley as we were leaving having jumped off the late running 16:10 Down.
I think operations made the right call. The 37 was obviously the star of the gala, with it not being a regular to the gala circuit so needed to be run with the swap of the part to the Deltic for the final run allowing those who wanted to ride behind the Deltic a chance to.

Railhead conditions were a tad slippy this morning...

A few years ago a friend of mine took his Parents to the NYMR's diesel event, having a thing for Brush Type 4's, they went for a ride behind 47580 asking his mother what she thought of the noise of the big Sulzer she replied with 'it sounds just like my washing machine on spin' it was a while before he took her out again.

A very good day at the MHR yesterday. The stars for me were the BR green pair of KOYLI and the 37...

Finally had a chance to get my offerings uploaded. A quick selection here with the rest going onto flickr shortly.

I attended all day on Sunday, and had a very good day. There was a good selection of locos with variation in the timetable (the non-stop run through Ropley being one of the highlights), and there seemed to be a good number of people out both on the trains and lineside. My video from the day is below for those interested. My thanks go to the Mid Hants for sticking with diesel galas despite the bad luck they have had with them in recent years and for doing this one so well, hopefully same again next year :)

Here's my take on an excellent gala. I attended all three days, despite the weather.

Slightly late to the party, but here's my offerings from the Friday and the Sunday of the event. A brilliant Gala, very well organised and good to see the trains were mostly full. Hopefully there is an event next year!

    Enjoy!

I am away at a family wedding in Cornwall, so won't be there. Probably. I nderstand the gala this year was a reasonable success, but bad weather forecast for Saturday impacted numbers, although actually quite decent on the day, although windy!
