What was the rail head conditions on the day, She had already slipped on one section, if the leaf fall season has started early then use of the sanders is needed, only the crew can tell you why the sanders were on,

I'm guessing they were on because of rail-head conditions :Banghead:

So after waking up at 4am and travelling a long way North, the promised bad weather and rain held back. 35018 appeared to be running well but upon reaching York it was evident in my last clip something wasn't quite right. With the news that it was just 45699 on its own for the return I did what any normal person would do and decide to head to Wales for 5043... (video to follow on different thread)

    Dear Father Christmas

Can you please help WCRC to make BIL better in time for Christmas and let her pull your Santa Specials for them in December.

    Love and Hugs

Just coming out from behind my lurking stone for this..

Really don’t know why anyone had a problem with this post Don, you're stating a fact, comparing the sounds of two locos of the same class!

Crawling back under my stone now...

As has happened on the East Coast this afternoon. The 12:00 Edinburgh-KX has failed near Berwick-upon-Tweed.
It's been sat there for over three and a half hours.

I must say that 35018 looks fantastic. Let's get over the unfortunate failure of the loco yesterday and wish West Coast better luck in the future. <BJ>

Well, as this topic is the Lune Rivers Trust special, I feel some comment needs to be made about the return leg which saw "Galatea" in fine form. With a thirteen coach load (aprox 455 tons) she was stopped by a track circuit failure at the very bottom of Micklefield bank just as it started to rain. With permission to pass the signal at danger, she got the train going and strode up the bank in a very capable manner, with barely a hint of a slip. Later, between Skipton and Bell Busk, that lovely sound of a 5X roar at the front of the train was pure magic - especially so as this was on their old stamping ground and we are at the 50th anniversary of their final days in service. 45699 is a locomotive in its prime at present and a joy to travel behind.

Indeed. Who would have thought it? Out and back with two scrapyard rescues...

To be honest most locos running are all scrapyard rescues or new builds

Resplendent in its new paintwork, SR MN Class 4-6-2 No. 35018 'British India Line' works away from Long Preston on the approach to Hellifield. Credit has got to go to all those involved at Carnforth for bringing this engine back from scrapyard condition to were it belongs on the mainline.

Suitably refreshed, SR MN Class 4-6-2 No. 35018 'British India Line' accelerates away from Hellifield with the 'Lune Rivers Trust' special to York

Well you can be in pedant mode if you like. I was making a valid comment about WCRC having two resurrections on the same day out and about.

But then, the A4s, Clan Line. Flying Scotsman, LMS Princess Royals. LMS Coronations, BR Britannia Classes, Royal Scot, a few of the Black 5's never saw a scrap yard... To identify just a few.

Sorry if you thought my post was being critical of your previous comment as that was not what I was meaning to do .

Footage of 35018 on last Saturday's run, plus shots of 45690 (on the CCE) and 45699 returning the Lune Rivers.
