80097 is a BR 4MT in its final stages of restoration and the Bury Standard 4 Group has launched it's Kickstarter project to raise £16k for the super-heater elements. Its anticipated that it'll steam this year on the East Lancs Railway, so support the project and donate - there are footplate rides and exclusive driving experiences available!

According to http://www.burystandard4group.org.uk/about, the "assets" (which I assume includes 80097) are owned by the Bury Steam Locomotive Company Limited, which appears to be a company limited by shares which are apparently available for purchase. I am not familiar with Kickstarter and it may be that different structures are available, but how does the money raised get into the project e.g. is it a donation to the limited company, a loan, or something else?

Kickstarter is whats known as 'crowd-funding' - its basically a donation site, but gets wide coverage online through various channels (social media, website links, etc). The difference with other donation sites (things like Just Giving, etc), Kickstarter makes a point of offering rewards for donators, making it more of an incentive to give towards a project. The project in the case of 80097 is the super-heater elements within the boiler itself.
The project goal has been set at £16000, and runs for 30 days (finishes on Feb 7th). The rewards available for different tiers of donations go from pens and mugs to footplate rides and exclusive driving experiences on 80097.
The company itself is a Ltd company, but as the video on Kickstarter explains, the company was setup for VAT reasons to claim the VAT back on the purchase on the loco in the 1980s. It has no paid employees, no expenses paid to the volunteers and the shareholders funds are invested into the restoration. All the donations go straight into the engine and have been for the past 30 years.
The restoration itself is in the final phases and if all goes to plan (hopefully with the aid of Kickstarter to try and get a wider audience and more coverage and awareness of the project), the loco should be steaming this year on the East Lancs Railway

4253 works in the same way. Both 4253 and 5668 will benefit from the purchase of shares, together with Charlie's now frequent "muggings" of any unfortunate bystanders....

Now passed the out of frames steam test, with a bit of remedial work.

Hopefully will be steaming before the end of the year.

The 9F at Bury is apparently getting closer to completion, too. If I were high up at the ELR (it may surprise you to learn I'm not) I'd be giving some serious thought to a BR Standards themed gala in the near future...

Don't know if everyone's been following on facebook this but the boiler is back in the frames, fully tested, so it looks like they're a few weeks away from her moving under her own steam again.
