That was always the intention but Network Tail has given just WC the simple choice of taking the diesel to Bristol or cancel the train.

That said,Mick Kelly gave us a stonking run from Carnforth. Nothing from the diesel unlike yesterday. 53 over Coppull and a swift pass of Wigan.

Change of plan. Diesel has just been detached. Supervised by Mick Kelly!! Ray Poole is coming on at Shrewsbury. He will be pleased.

You don't need a crystal ball to work out that if a loco is under maintenance and that the scheduled return to service was close to the day it needed to be used that there was a high risk it would either fail or not be ready. There was no contingency.

Did you actually read what I wrote? The loss was bearable. I merely speculated about the lack of any contingency that any business would build into the plan.

Another blast across to Shrewsbury but we are waiting for a late Arriva train to clear southbound.

There's been a signalling problem between Ludlow and Leominster. Seems to be sorted now.

5043 and 46233 did double head from Tyseley to Carlisle and return about 3 years ago. Myself and my son were onboard, and I have photos and video to prove it, but I don't know how to download on to nat pres. For some reason the tour was virtually ignored by the railway press and enthusiasts, who probably didn't approve of this unusual combination. The southbound run over shap in particular was stunning. The eight cylinder pairing took the bank as though it wasn't their. If anyone remembers the date, or has photos, please post if possible. I think it was a vintage trains tour.

:Banghead: You do talk some twaddle, where's all the money and manpower and locos coming from for this 'contingency plan'? It's not feasible to have machines and men standing by 'just in case'. Think about it man, what you're saying is ridiculous.
I've just read your post #465........:Meh:

Meanwhile, back on the train - @Dobbs0054 please note - the Marches was brilliant. Unfortunately the Great British Public wanted to see the train so we were stopped at Pontrillas. From a standing start we went over Llanvihangel at 35 after a steady 45 through Llancillo.

Ah words from the fantasy apologists of a parallel universe that means a business SELLING a product to customers is immune from standard business practice.

No-one said standing by just in case. It has been speculated for some time that 60009 would struggle to make the date. Any credible business would recognise that risk. It would have pulled the loco and sought an alternative. Or just come clean and said we cannot guarantee 60009 will be ready in time so a diesel it will be. It's called honesty.

That's the one, thanks sgthompson. I was only one year out, but hey time flies when your having fun. By the way, it wasn't steam from Tyseley, I think the pair came on at Crewe or Carnforth.
