This is a lot of shunter up for sale and could do quite nicely for a few heritage railways that need a cheap and reliable locomotive to do the job, This looks like the last bulk sale of class 08s as the rest of the fleet still in commercial use are split up between the 10+ TOCs

Funny seeing 08 405 up for sale: its sister 08 406 was the very first class 08 I saw as a small boy.

its amazing to think now you could go for miles before you see a cronk, when they used to be absolutey everywhere and not just one or two between Cardiff and Severn tunnel you could pretty much guarantee seeing 10 dotted about. i know time doesnt stand still but oh my :(

Don't Transpennine have plans to buy some new LHCS? I would have thought that they might be rather interested in some 125mph locos to haul them.

Going back to the 08s, I was amused to see on Facebook the other day that one "preservation group" has made a successful bid...so is now admitting they don't have any of the money they've bid actually on-hand and are "crowdfunding" for donations to pay for it!

Expect Colas will have a go for them,
Save them hiring Drs crews and 68s for the 100mph test trains.

Although might just be to test the waters see who's interested and at what price,

It seems like DB are in alot of trouble and looking to cut cloth accordingly.

Pretty sure 023 was the high speed test loco that did 125 MPH + 10% on the GWML, when it was new

I read that on wnxx. Doesn't give one much confidence in those behind the reopening scheme.

    Yeah where I read it,
Doesn't make me too confident to pledge money either.
You can't save everything, maybe its best to let this one go for spares to keep the others going,

Indeed. It was also the one I had a cab ride on a few years ago, from Bounds Green to Bristol before the first season of Torbay Expresses. It was a bit lively at 100mph, I dread to think what 125+ felt like!

Pedant hat on. I believe 08888 has actually gone to two KESR members.

The F&B Crowdfunding scheme for 08757 fell short by around £16k; given that they quoted it on their site as being 'in operational condition' (somewhat at odds with the £30k needed to correct cranks that are somewhat at odds with each other), that's probably for the best...
    Gronk spares on ebay, perhaps?

Is the 09 a better bet for a Heritage set up than the 08's ?

Only if you want it to run trains, rather than just shunt.
